This, my friends, was not my first rodeo. It was, in fact, the second time I had the privilege to shoot backstage at the annual Victoria’s Secret runway-show taping, and this year I was paired up with none other than the lovely, brows-to-die-for Cara Delevingne. In preparation for her part, the model was practicing with a soccer ball, which was to be one of her runway props for the evening. It wasn’t going well, but—in her usual fashion—she had everyone laughing along with her. Watching the drama, Kasia Struss (in a very authoritarian London Bobby look) stepped in and mock-handcuffed Cara for being a soccer hooligan, and Jourdan Dunn used her riding crop to dole out punishment for a soccer foul.
Everyone showed up in an incredible mood, and new girls Martha Hunt, Josephine Skriver, and Ming Xi were particularly excited to be there with veterans Adriana Lima, Candace Swanepoel, and Doutzen Kroes. Taylor Swift, the star performer of the night, was right in the thick of it with the other girls—definitely no diva behavior here—chatting away with Karlie Kloss and Delevigne as they lined up for the their runway entrances and final touch-ups.
However, one thing they couldn’t practice for? The slick conditions that developed on the runway during the Snow Angels sequence—confetti snow was falling from the rafters seemingly causing Joan Smalls, Izabel Goulart, and Cara to make some unsteady exits from the runway. But the girls, ever the professionals, kept their balance and pulled it off beautifully—air kisses and all.
