Punk, sequins, matching top-and-bottom ensembles; this sums up British high street label Topshop's festive collection that was shown at Digital Fashion Week 2013
Topshop is much loved in sunny Singapore. The front row at the Topshop Season's Runway Edit show read like a who's who of local celebrities, personalities and bloggers - from Patricia Mok, Tracy Phillips, Jean Danker and Glenn Ong to Lim Peifen and Dawn Yang - decked head to toe in Topshop. Some were dressed by Topshop personal shopping manager Dani Payne who flew in from London especially for the event.
The show kicked off with some tartan and leather in the style of '80s British punk with skinny trousers, a pair of cute plaid crossover shorts and moto jacket with leather sleeves. Pieces of fuzzy outerwear and cable knit sweaters along with embellished necklines softened the tough edge.
An adorable matching bomber jacket and shorts ensemble - there were more same-y top-and-bottom outfits to come - set the festive tone, thanks to metallic thread details. The string of pants and shorts were broken up by a pale pink look that was distinctively holiday. Shimmery sequin paillettes and a plastic-y pencil skirt was toned down by lady-like pink pumps - an outfit Ariel the mermaid would surely approve of for Christmas.
An interesting camouflage patterned bomber jacket and pencil skirt ensemble followed. With a sparkly top under and the ladylike silhouette, the army print was decidedly prim. The sleek skirts followed, a sheer embellished skirt showed off plenty of leg but the look was kept tasteful with a jumper. Pencil skirts and sequins were plentiful.
We enjoyed the looks that paired cropped tops with skirts - a combination that was equal parts youthful yet put together - something Topshop does well. There was an interesting Victorian-inspired long dress with lace appliques and a tangerine orange embellished swingy A-line dress that were on different ends of the spectrum but both still had a fun festive vibe to them.
