Tom Ford Private Blend Atelier d'Orient scents inspired by Asia

If you are a connoisseur of fragrances then you must not miss out on Tom Ford’s stunning Atelier d'Orient, a collection of four Private Blend fragrances inspired by the beauty, sensuality and luxury of Asia
Tom Ford is a man, in many ways, like no other. No matter what he turns his hand to, be it fashion, film, beauty, or, as now, fragrances, you are ensure that his very particular vision will run true.
With the Tom Ford Private Blend Atelier d'Orient Collection of four fragrances, the designer has created what he describes as the “quintessential Private Blend” inspired by “the sublime beauty, enigmatic sensuality and exquisite luxury of Asia”.

“It is an olfactory exploration of Asia's fusion of cultures and influences that Is extremely beautiful, quite unexpected, and a reinvention of the region's most precious ingredients,” says Ford. “Atelier d'Orient is an artisanal collection that captures subtle qualities of Asia-its elegant discretion, refined mastery of details and
classical eroticism.”

Each scent has been designed to capture a particular mood ‒ oriental opulence; colonial elegance; luxurious exoticism, and richly mysterious sensuality.

“For Fleur de Chine, I imagined the romantic and mysterious women from Asia's cinematic past-from the '30s femme fatale in a cheongsam and dark lipstick, to the '60s Hong Kong heroine of In the Mood for Love. I wanted to capture that fascinating, exquisite and slightly scandalous femininity,” says Ford.
Asian flowers like the HuaLan flower and star magnolia are combined with clementine, bergomot and hyacinth for the Fleur De Chine blend, then added to more “eastern” scents like jasmine tea, syringa, plum and tea rose, wisteria, white peach and soft tree peony. On top of all the blooms are added more “woody” scents like hinoki wood, Chinese cedarwood, amber, rare benzoin Laos, styrax and vetiver.

In reading about the Orient's rituals and history, I became entranced with the refined art of gift-giving. Rive d'Ambre is inspired by the tradition of presenting precious citrus fruits as gifts. True to my nature, the sparkling fruits are wrapped in rich and warm sensuality,” says Ford.
Rive d'Ambre is a more “fruity” scent featuring bergamot, lemon and bitter orange oils combined with tarragon, cardamom and Moroccan spearmint oil, rare benzoin Laos and pear wood. There’s also notes of cognac oil, tolu balsam and amber.

"I have always been fascinated by unusual ingredients steeped in exotic cultures. The ume plum is an exotic and exquisite ingredient that has great meaning In Oriental culture; in Japan and China, it is a sacred symbol of Spring. I wanted to craft a fragrance around the ume, because it has a texture and aroma that is so luscious,” says Ford.

According to the brand, “Plum Japonais is a rich and luxurious fragrance for true scent connoisseurs”. It is made up of saffron, cinnamon bark Laos, everlasting flower and sawara cypress, ume plum, plum liqueur, camellia japonica flowers and rare agarbois. There’s also warmer scents like amber, benzoin Laos, fir balsam absolute, vanilla absolute and vanilla infusion added to it.

"This fragrance began with a dream of the Silk and Spice Roads-the ancient, Asian trading routes for luxurious and precious goods. I imagined caravans piled high with treasures, and being surrounded by a multi-sensorial abundance of opulence,” says Ford.
Made up of ingredients like bitter orange, pink peppercorn and rich black pepper blended with clove, Shanghai Lily also includes jasmine, rose and tuberose, vetiver and cashmeran. More “golden” scents include benzoin Laos, castoreum, cistus labdanum and guaiacwood, mixed with vanilla and frankincense.
