A bigger and better Art Fair Philippines 2014 is set to be a much-anticipated event after its successful inaugural edition in 2013. Featuring the best of Philippine contemporary art, Art Fair Philippines 2014 takes place from February 20 to 23, 2014 at the same easily accessible urban venue: The Link car park building located between the Makati Shangri-la Hotel and the Landmark Department Store in Makati City, Metro Manila’s financial and commercial district.
Visitors to Art Fair Philippines 2014 can expect works by established names from the Philippine art scene, as well as by promising newcomers, showcased in curated exhibit spaces.
Once again, the car park will be transformed into a surprisingly sophisticated alternative art space in collaboration with architects Leandro V. Locsin Partners and designer Kenneth Cobonpue. This year the fair expands into a second floor area, the Ayala Art Annex, featuring more galleries and installations especially commissioned for the fair as well as a lecture suite and a room dedicated to video art. Christie’s will host the lecture series of the fair, Christie’s Art Forum, focusing on broadening knowledge for Southeast Asian contemporary art and art historical movements.
Primarily focusing on galleries from the Philippines and emphasizing local talent, site-specific installations will include works by Rodel Tapaya, a reception area piece by Jose John Santos III, an interactive sports-inspired work by Louie Cordero, and silk-screened scarves and graphic wallpaper from UK-trained artist Pio Abad. The annex area will feature new sculptural works by national artist Benedicto Cabrera alongside solo exhibitions by Marina Cruz, Geraldine Javier, and Ronald Ventura.
Parallel events include The Urban Art Project, a joint initiative with Ayala Land to place art in strategic locations within the Makati Commercial Center. All-day casual dining and cocktails in the early evening will be courtesy of Kai Restaurant and The Straits Wine Company. Living Innovations is sponsoring the illuminated Slide Furniture in the common areas of the venue. Free Wi-Fi within thefair is provided by GlobeTelecom. The Raffles Makati is the fair’s Official Hotel Partner. As Digital Imaging Partner, Epson Philippines is providing projectors for the video space.
