Sweet Suites: The Lazy Lizard at Rosewood Jumby Bay, Antigua

Rosewood Jumby Bay has long been a favorite retreat for the world’s most discerning travelers. In fact, the resort once famously turned away Princess Diana because they worried that her fame and the accompanying paparazzi and press would disturb other guests. For true A-listers, there’s no better place to stay than the resort’s palatial villas. The newest addition, Lazy Lizard, is by far the grandest.
Unveiled in October 2013, the sprawling 18,000-square-foot beachfront estate is a stunning, one-of-a-kind retreat with panoramic views of pristine white beaches and turquoise waters and island charm.
“Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Caribbean Sea, Lazy Lizard is the epitome of exclusive and private home Caribbean living,” said Andrew Hedley, managing director of Rosewood Jumby Bay and regional vice president of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts. “The estate was conceived as an escape for friends and families to come together in a relaxed, beautiful, sociable and secluded environment. We are thrilled to welcome the new home to our existing collection of luxurious properties.”

A resort in itself, Lazy Lizard is situated on five acres of tropical landscape, encompassing a main house, six guest suites, a spectacular swimming pool, a tennis court and a fitness center. Feeling pampered yet? Guests of the Lazy Lizard also enjoy the services of a dedicated personal staff team—including a butler, private chef and housekeeper. Two golf carts help guests get around in style.

Overseen by renowned local architect Andrew Goodenough, Lazy Lizard was designed with entertaining in mind. The main house features a spacious open-air living room and dining room, and a contemporary kitchen where the estate’s private Chef Sarah Wong– who spent the past few winter seasons in Antigua and summers in Italy working at the Michelin restaurant Andreini– will prepare most anything guests desire.

The exceptionally private home is composed of eight individually designed pavilions clustered around a spectacular swimming pool set in the center of the estate with a floating dining pavilion—ideal for outdoor entertainment. Six bedroom suites sit in separate pavilions surrounding the main house, which includes two magnificent 2,000-square-foot master suites boasting breathtaking views of the expansive and glittering sea. The surrounding bedroom suites enjoy grand living areas which open into beautifully appointment bedrooms, all with sleek and stylish en-suite baths. Each private bath features custom stonework and private outdoor gardens with luxurious rain showers. In the private outdoor gardens off the master baths, generous, hand carved ivory travertine bathtubs accompany the custom rain showers.

Of course, this level of luxury comes with a price. The home rents for a little over $10,000 per night in low season, and as much as $35,000 per night in high season.
