Designer dolls are back! Last year, renowned designers and creative artists designed dolls for the 11th edition of the Frimousses de Créateurs event. Initiated by UNICEF, the 2013 annual auction comprised of a collection of 93 designer dolls aka Les Frimousses and raised over $230,000. For 2014, the 12th edition of the project has kicked off with fourty-four brands that include Chanel, Gucci, Dior, Lanvin, Sonia Rykiel, Chantal Thomass, Maison Lejaby, Dolce & Gabbana, Gregos, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, Jean Paul Gaultier and the likes.
The designer dolls have been designed to be auctioned to raise funds to promote the vaccination of children. The proceeds of the sale will be directed to a child vaccination project in Darfur. The goal this year is to allow vaccination of more than 300 000 children in 2015. The biggest names from the fashion world along with renowned contemporary artists have combined talent, creativity and generosity to give rise to over 80 unique creations based on the theme of the Opera. The ballet dancer Nicolas Le Riche and opera singer Natalie Dessay are the ambassadors for the twelfth edition.
Dolce & Gabbana doll is sized at 40 cm x 23 cm x 15 cm and is shaped out of fabric, hand-painted resin and clad in black lace dress embellished with crystals and a jewel brooch.
Gucci has hand-fixed 1000 mixed feathers of various colors to make their doll fly high over the rest of the collection.
Dior doll is made entirely by hand, wearing a silk dress embroidered with crystals and stones carried by the workshops Christian Dior Couture.
Prada’s doll creation wears the label’s Autumn / Winter collection 2014. Standing tall at 63 cm x 20 cm x 8 cm, she sports a coat with tricotine printed border and an oversized sweater in gray and black cashmere with a plunging neckline. Purple crepe de Chine scarf and red leather boots give her the complete Parisian diva look.
Lanvin by Alber Elbaz has used fabrics from Lanvin archives, swarovski, pearls and lots of love to give shape to “Diva someday. Diva always “. She stand much taller at 66 cm.
Nina Ricci for Disney contiributed with a doll made in Disneyland Paris sewing workshops from the design by Nina Ricci House.
Jean Paul Gaultier’s Ballet master doll is inspired by a high fashion model Fall Winter 2011-2012. Made from twisted wire and wrapped iron, she is decked with lamb jacket, tutu embroidered with sequins, tulle and bowling marabout along with a feather plume headdress.
