50 and Kicking? Thailand is Giving You 10-year Visa!

Thailand tourism 10-year visa policy for senior tourists

They say that 50’s are the new 40 and I personally agree with that.

Our Grannies are sassier than ever and guess what, they are not stopping and actually can still compete with the millenials.

That’s why Thailand Tourism will be a good news for our baby boomers!

If you are age 50 and above, you can now get a long-stay visa for 10-years up from the existing (1) one year with one of the requirements being to report to the immigration police every 90-days.

This change comes as the Thai government aims to promote medical and wellness tourism.

The visa which costs 10,000 baht (approx. US$279.00) will be valid initially for five years and could be renewed for another five, according to Bangkok Post.

Apart from the age requirement, applicants need to have a monthly income of at least 100,000 baht (approx. US$2,789.00) or a bank deposit of at least 3 million baht (approx. US83,658.00) to be maintained for at least a year after receiving the visa.

In addition, they have to have health insurance coverage for at least US1,000 for outpatient care and US$10,000 or more for inpatient care per policy per year.

Target groups for the visa includes long-stay visitors from Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Taiwan who usually stay in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Chon Buri and other seaside provinces.

  7. I love the idea and I know my mum will be thrilled to hear about it. The older she gets the more she travels :-) Is this visa available for anyone or limited to the countries you mentioned (e.g. Canada, Germany etc.)?

    1. Well if that happens that's really awesome and will boost their tourism industry! Lucky for us Asians living in Southeast Asia because we don't need to apply for visa :D

  9. Wow, that is quite interesting, I wonder why they chose age 50? The price does not sound to bad and for 10 years you can't go wrong. They are very expensive for 6 month in UK or US
