City Vibes: Best Modest Fashion Styles To Follow In 2017

Best Modest Fashion Styles To Follow In 2017

Who would have thought that 2016 would come around so quickly?

It’s hard to believe that 2016 is coming to an end; time does fly when you’re too busy immersing yourself in what you’re passionate about. The fashion world had some big moments throughout the year; from Hedi Slimane’s final collection with Saint Laurent to Lady Gaga’s cameo in Marc Jacobs' Fall 2016 show, the fashion world was not short of surprises.

The end of the year also presents an opportunity for a modest fashionista to review their wardrobe and prepare themselves for the upcoming trends in 2017. To put you at the front of the pack, we have come up with some of the best modest fashion styles to follow in 2017 based on the Pinterest 100 for 2017 board.

From bedroom to the boardroom

Transforming sleepwear into daywear is not a brand new idea; it has been on the runways and the red carpet many times. However, we understand if you haven’t jumped on the bandwagon–it is a rather odd trend and pulling it off tastefully can be a challenge. 2017 will be the year to embrace this trend; its loose silhouette is not only comfortable but ticks the modesty box as well.

If you’re too afraid of rocking a full pyjama set, just wear the top as you would a silk shirt. Style it with a pair of well-tailored trousers and pumps for a corporate vibe or pair it with jeans or leather pants for a more creative look. When you are ready to go all the way, pair up your pyjama sets as you would with a three-piece suit!

Patching things up

Customization via pins and patches is predicted to be huge in 2017. It is a great way to update your clothes without buying new ones. The trend seemed to be everywhere, from Gucci to Coach, during fashion week. The best fashion items that will work well with patching will be your favourite denim, cotton button-down shirts and old tees; there is even a designer who is working on patches to put on your hijab or silk square scarves!

There is probably an infinite amount of patches around the world so it’s best to shop for patches whenever you are travelling – they would definitely scream out your personality and experiences to other people.

Trumpeting the bell sleeves

Good news if you don’t like layering your clothes: sleeves are getting longer and longer! Why? Because the bell/trumpet sleeve is gaining popularity once again! A great pair of statement sleeves put the fun and drama into modest fashion; just look at the designs Fendi, Roberto Cavalli and Rachel Zoe showcased this year that will instantly boost your city chic vibes.

There are so many ways to style this trend. Be dramatic by pairing a bell/trumpet sleeve top with a pair of culottes or a voluminous ruffle skirt or create a balance by juxtaposing the fullness of the top with a pair of skinny jeans or slim trousers.

In between fashion seasons, wardrobe malfunctions and technology breakthroughs, it is a great time to reflect on your fashion outlook next year and brush up with the trends that you haven’t tried this year. It’s hoped that the list above is able to prepare you for what you can expect to see come 2017.

  14. I love that bell sleeves are starting to become more fashionable! I always prefer longer sleeves to shorter sleeves. SO much so that my clothes are a little stretched because I tend to yank them!

    1. The best thing about wearing longer sleeves is that your skin will be more protected to any sun causing damages.
