Reasons Why You Should Buy Malagos Dark Chocolates

 Malagos Dark Chocolates
For some people, chocolates are guilty pleasures. And for others, they find sole comfort with it.

However, chocolates are chocolates and it’s very hard to resists them. Especially when I will pair it with my brewed coffee to help me keep awake during my busy days, pairing with favorite vino during my during my TGIFs.

Recently, I’ve found myself lusting for a premium kind of chocolate in the market. After attending the Bean-to-Bar Chocolate Festival months ago, and I’ve realized the value of our locally grown cacao. I thought I should include searching for the finest chocolate in my agenda.

Forget about the imported chocolates.

Sorry Ferrero Rocher, I love you but I have to choose our local products first. (You’ll have room next time!).

And after visiting the recent IFEX 2017 and met some local chocolate makers, especially the Malagos Agri-Ventures Corporation team – makers of Malagos Chocolate, one of the premium chocolatier in the Philippines, I knew that my quest has started to become a reality.

It was a huge privilege to meet the Malagos Chocolate team during the recent IFEX 2017. I’ve got a chance to have a chit-chat with them and tasted their proud dark chocolates, all made from the finest cacao that is home-grown in Davao.

And just recently, Malagos Chocolates bags a Silver Award from a prestigious Academy of Chocolate Award 2017 after competing with other chocolate companies worldwide.

It was the 5th international award that Malagos Chocolate have earned since 2015.

During the IFEX Media Conference, I’ve got a chance to talk one of the representative from Malagos Agri-Ventures Corporation, were he introduced me to his proud chocolate, especially the 65% dark chocolate. He said that it is their best-selling chocolate recently, and I agree with him after tasting it. It was so good that I need to control myself because I would be ended up feeling hyper.

 Malagos Dark Chocolates

During my chocolate tasting, he proudly discussed to me that their chocolates are “tree-to-bar” which means that the whole process of making the chocolate products – starting from planting, growing, fermentation, drying, sorting, roasting and production – are all done right at their farm in Calinan District in Davao. He said that the company owes the award to the cacao farmers who worked hard in order to get the finest quality of cacao beans fit to be addressed as one of the best chocolate globally.

 Malagos Dark Chocolates

Aside from the 65% Dark Chocolate, another of my favorite is their 85% dark chocolate. You might want to try this variant because of its very interesting taste. It taste of local pure cacao, with the mixed of fruit flavour, and sort of having a wine taste, which I find it so good I could paired it literally with my favorite Bordeaux.

They said it’s because the cacao beans used comes from the cacao plants that are grown nearby the fruit plantation, which affects the quality of soil, which the results of growing of interesting cacao beans.

All their cacao fruits are ripen naturally in the trees before harvesting, and they always make sure the cleanliness of their storage area, which greatly affects the scents and tastes of their cacao beans.
Malagos Chocolates are available both locally and they also export their chocolates for many countries worldwide. Recently, Malagos Agri-Ventures Corporation’s 65% chocolates are now available to 300 Starbucks Philippines branches nationwide.

This makes the Malagos chocolate more accessible to the market, and I do hope that many coffee-lovers will also give LOVE to our local premium chocolates.

 Malagos Dark Chocolates

They’ve also introduced these cute single sized packaging, made of recycled paper, and also locally produced in Davao. I find it so cute and very creative, making their chocolates more appealing to the gift-givers market especially this coming holiday season.

 Malagos Dark Chocolates

Yes this is a REAL 65% DARK CHOCOLATE! And I almost freaked-out how huge it is! I guess it was weighing 2 to 3 kilos, and I believe me I want to take it home with me!

With the amazing success of the Malagos chocolates, did you know that they also have their own chocolate museum?

Malagos Chocolate Museum was first interactive chocolate museum in the Philippines and was launched last March 2017. Located within the Malagos Garden Resort complex (yes they also have resort!) the Malagos Chocolate Museum offers visitors an informative tree-to-bar journey of Davao’s world famous cacao, from the farm nurseries to various stages of chocolate production, up to the finished product.

Guests can also see where the beans are solar-dried and carefully graded, then processed using specialized equipment during the farm tour. The tour also showcases Malagos’ best practices as well as the involvement of the local community in the entire process.

Entrance to the Malagos Chocolate Museum is already included in the Php200 resort entrance fee. However, for those who want to experience in making their own chocolates, there is an additional Php450 but they get to take home their custom-made Malagos chocolates.

It’s a great deal for all Malagos guests!

I can’t wait to visit the Malagos cacao farm, their resort and its museum! I’ll keep you posted!

xoxo, Blair

  6. Wow 85% dark chocolate. Is it bitter? I'm actually afraid to try dark chocolates because I'm not used to the bitter sweet taste of it, but the 65% chocolate paired with red wine sounds interesting to me. You can have a wine, chocolate, and cheese party. :-)

The 85% chocolate is bitter-sweet and taste like a mixture of fruity, probably because of its terroir which is also planted with fruit trees.

You should try chocolate testing.. you've been missing amazing experiences in the world if you didn't.

In the US the chocolate kind of sucks, but in Canada it's usually better and in South America and Europe, it's the best because the grade is higher unless you get it Fair Trade or from artisan spots like these. :) Dark chocolate is my favourite too!
