It helps to unleash my creative designs in my head, while minimizing the textile waste accumulated at home, and collecting personally bespoke clothes (just don’t ask about my walk-in closet coz I reckon I might be needing another room!).
When I finally had the time to upcycle my son’s old school jumper (he used to go to Warragul Regional College), I knew that this jumper would be another piece that I would enjoy playing with the rest of my textile. After all, my husband paid $75 for this school jumper. Apparently, school uniforms are very expensive nowadays.
My source of design inspiration is from many Tokyo street-style posts that I’ve seen from browsing Pinterest, and Instagram. The main color palette (dark blue and white) is considered basic, however, designing a piece that I would love is a tricky part.
Gladly, I had some white lace textile that my Grandma gave me previously and started cutting strips of fabric to make lots of ruffles.
Not many love ruffles, but in my opinion, ruffles are always a good idea.
I cut the jumper shorter to achieve that cropped look, then stitched all the ruffles around in random designs, and made a slip-cut on both sleeves to create an interesting and eccentric look.
The silver maxi skirt is made from a fabric that I bought back in December in Spotlight Traralgon.

What do you think of this new upcycled design?
Too funky and shiny? Or too eccentric?
Coz either way, I love it!
