Review: Marco Polo Ortigas Manila – The Continental Club

Have you been to Marco Polo Ortigas Manila?

Chances are some of you have been there for a convention, business meetings, or many dining at their impressive restaurants or many had a coffee at Café Pronto.

I’ve been quite a regular visitor of Marco Polo Ortigas because of many events and parties hosted in town, but I hadn’t had a chance to actually experience their whole hospitality experience until one weekend in July 2018 when I had the privilege to spend my time at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. I got a great reason to stay with them overnight and make that gloomy weather into a fine weekend.

If you are a frequent visitor or reader of my blog, you’ve noticed that I’ve shared some awesome stories about this hotel. For two years straight, this hotel has gained 5-star awards from the prestigious Forbes Travel Award. I have no doubts that they gained that recognition, as based on my personal experience – they are one of those hotels that give impeccable hospitality services to their guests.

I would like to share this experience, along with the photos – so beware to be in awe of them. I wouldn’t blame you if you do because Marco Polo Ortigas is truly a destination in Manila.

We arrived one Saturday afternoon at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila. Since my accommodation is good for two people, I invited my dear friend Lexa to enjoy this little luxury (but she chose not to spend the night and came back the next morning – after all, Marco Polo Ortigas is almost her neighbor).

Our accommodation is located at their prestigious The Continental Club – the most exclusive floor of Marco Polo Ortigas. From the ground floor, we were escorted to the 44th floor of the hotel in which a separate reception area is located for the guests staying on this exclusive floor.

Reception Area – The Continental Club

We received a very warm welcome from their staff. Each time I visit a hotel for my personal leisure, it is my protocol never to disclose who I am as a blogger and hotel reviewer thus, I use my legal name based on my legal documents. This way, it avoids any extra special treatment and just treats us the way they treat their all guests.

The reception staff gave me my confirmation letter, along with the club’s rules and guidelines and a few compliments, like;

• Express check-in and check-out
• Dining and beverages service in the exclusive Continental Club Lounge:
- Deluxe buffet breakfast – 6:30AM to 10:30AM
- Afternoon refreshments, coffee, tea and juices – 2:30PM to 5:00PM
- Pre-dinner cocktails and canapés – 5:30PM to 7:00PM
• Pressing for one suit / one pair of garments per stay
• Laundry service for one shirt or blouse per stay
• Premium wifi internet access
• Use of the boardroom for up to two hours per stay
• Use of the lounge’s private library and reading alcove
• A selection of business and office services

We arrived at around 2:30PM and after our check-in, we were escorted to the lounge to enjoy their afternoon tea selection. They have lots of cookies and small cakes to choose from, and some refreshments! I admit that I haven’t experienced such kind of warm welcome in other high-end hotels here in Manila, which makes Marco Polo Ortigas stand out to the rest.

Our luggage was delivered ahead to our room, while we enjoyed our afternoon coffee at the Continental Club Lounge. It was still a gloomy day, and it was a pity that we couldn’t go outside. However, I think it is unnecessary – we always have time for other engagements, and we choose to stay indoors at the hotel.

The Bedroom

One word can describe the room I had – EXQUISITE. Its luxurious appeal is undeniable which led me to take many inspiring photos of it. I like that the room has ample space for a wardrobe and luggage, a spacious bathroom that is hard to resist, and a lovely bed that gives me a luxurious sleep under 200-thread counts of white sheets, sleeping like in a cloud during the weekend. The floors are fully-carpeted, sound-proof and no adjacent door to the next room.

I admit that I pity that it wasn’t my Mon Amour whom I am with me that day because I believe he will love it as well. I also like that we had a wonderful full view of the city with our wide glass window and a sitting area for me to enjoy my reading, which enjoying these welcome treats of fruits and macaroons for us.

With this huge wardrobe, you and your partner would have ample space for your clothes and organize them properly. The next door also stores the iron board, another place to hang your clothes, an extra pillow on top, and an umbrella in case we want to go out. The closet also stores our complimentary bedroom slippers, laundry bags, and others.

My room also has its own minibar that houses some selected drinks, refreshments, and condiments (for a separate bill of course). They also have this complimentary Nespresso coffee for us to consume, and other coffee and tea, and some bottled water.

I like that they have an impressive selection of cable channels that we can enjoy. This flat screen television is size well enough for me as my companion during the night (my friend decided not to spend the night as she has another engagement).

Oh, you will see how luxurious my bathroom is!

It was glorious as I can describe it! How they layout these bathroom pieces accordingly, those robes and bathroom toiletries are so beautiful!

Oh, don’t kid me about the bathtub because it is one of my favorite spaces in this room. The deep-soaked bathtub is good enough for two. And this glass window is a perfect view to enjoy my favorite movies.

Next to the bathtub is this good shower along with extra towels and bathroom toiletries. I enjoyed my moments here, a good space to relax and release all those bad tensions of my mind and body – quite cheaper than going to the spa, of course.

You can also just the hotel’s taste through its choice of bathroom toiletries offered to its guests. Marco Polo Ortigas Manila has this Trussardi My Land, a luxurious Italian line of bathroom toiletries. The shampoo and shower gel featured a formula containing hyaluronic acid, that is extremely gentle, moisturizes skin, and leaves it feeling clean and intensely nourished.

Pre-dinner cocktail at Continental Club Lounge

After spending our siesta in our room, we decided to dress up and went to Continental Club Lounge for our pre-dinner cocktails.

Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, hotels and resorts, travel, Philippine Travel, hotels in Manila, Marco Polo Ortigas Manila The Continental Club, Marco Polo Ortigas review

For our pre-dinner cocktail, I decided to wear my simple black cocktail dress and red shoes for this occasion. Let me remind you that there is a strict dress code and decorum in the Continental Club Lounge. The minimum dress code at the Club Lounge is Smart Casual, like;

• Gym apparel, bathrobes, slippers, and strapless sandals are not permitted.
• Shorts are allowed on weekends and holidays only
• Gentlemen may not wear sleeveless shirts and open shoes at any time (this isn’t a resort after all)
• The dress code applies to children as well.

I admit that I highly appreciate the dress code and decorum implemented on their property. Each time I visited some hotels here in Manila, I noticed that many of the guests don’t exercise the proper decorum anymore even for fellow locals. Though I admit that this might be intimidating for first-timers, this is a great opportunity to exercise the proper decorum and learn the dos and don’ts in preparation for mingling the other society.

During the cocktail hour, you can get any drinks available and if you like – the Lounge staff will offer you their special mixed drinks! Both of us had a really great time and enjoyed the canapés and other food and drinks during that hour. Of course, we ended up not having dinner. After all, we have a full stomach and can’t accommodate another round of food.

After Cocktail Hour

We both truly feel that we are on a fabulous vacation with this good food and drinks and gorgeous accommodations. After our cocktail hour, Lexa decided to go to her meeting and I spent my time having a warm bath while watching a good movie from HBO, then taking some of my beauty items for a quick product shoot, replying to business emails, and just had a great time.

My love for pampering myself is undeniable!

The next morning…

Breakfast is another time I love to enjoy during my vacation. I have a habit of waking up early so I can have an opportunity to check all the food for that morning.

And of course, vacation breakfast isn’t complete without the morning paper. Marco Polo Ortigas has the leading local newspaper and New York Times.

Other amenities:

They also have good meeting rooms, gym space, an indoor swimming pool, a spa, and a number of restaurants. I decided not to use the indoor pool because it is quite crowded during that day.

Lung Hin Restaurant is located on the 44th Floor next to the Continental Club Lounge. You can also enjoy the Cucina Restaurant, and have your afternoon tea at Lounge Connect.

The floor to their own spa.

Verdict:

My weekend stay at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is absolutely unforgettable. I had a great time and fully enjoyed their very luxurious accommodation, and appreciated their very warm hospitality. It might be discouraging for some for its price, however, the experience is totally worth it. Their ways of hospitality are very different from other luxury hotels here in the city, and no wonder that they gained an impressive 5-star rank in the hospitality industry. Not all hotels can do what Marco Polo Ortigas can provide to their guests.

Marco Polo Ortigas Manila is a perfect destination to experience, especially if you will celebrate it with your significant occasions like anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, or just a spontaneous weekend for yourself or your family.

  74. I already tried staying in Marco Polo. Dang! Your bathroom is so posh! I love your hotel articles. I always read them. PS: I would like to try their buffet.

OMG for their buffet! Even their afternoon tea sets you will love it, lots of variety of foods and the best is you can enjoy the foods in a not crowded dining place.
