Would you believe that this is located in Southwest of China?

UPDATE: APRIL 30, 2016 - A campus is hailed as "coming from fairytale" for its impressive European-style architecture. The campus of Sichuan Southwest College of Civil Aviation, which is located in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, costs 1 billion yuan (US$154.5 million).

Red bricks, arch gates, pristine pavement and a fairytale-esque design, what more could you want from an educational environment? Oh, that's right, segways!

Sichuan Southwest Vocational College of Civil Aviation is a full-time higher vocational college approved by the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and directly managed by the Sichuan Department of Education.

The college is located in Jintang University Town of Chengdu city, covers an area of 500 mu, with a total investment of 1 billion yuan, and strives to create a Classic British school.

The college training center covers an area of 71.5 mu, total investment of 200 million yuan, has following six major functions: students practical training, regional aviation colleges focus on training, new recruits training, on-the-job employees training, social experience and tourist attractions. All kinds of training facilities worth a total of more than sixty (60) Millions yuan (or equivalent to US$9 Million).

There is yet more luxury inside the buildings. With high ceilings, chandeliers, French windows, elegant furnishings and grand pianos, the school aims to make students feel like they're studying in a 5-star palace, rather than a filthy dorm room.

An aviation school is nothing without a real airplane in the campus.

On the college's website, it refers to itself as “The most beautiful university in China."

If it is not the most beautiful, it is certainly the best publicized. Every few months, the school releases pictures of its elite student body. To train to be a flight hostess or host at the college, you need to be good looking and at least 163cm tall if you're a woman and 174cm if you are a man. Meanwhile, males can neither look too "feminine," nor too "tough" and intimidating -- even when they are dispatching onboard security threats.

And in spite of very expensive tuitions fees, board and lodging expenses, more Chinese parents are working so hard to get an application for their children and trying all their best to make their kids be accepted to this prestigious University.

I'm telling you that Chinese parents take their children's educational and bright future MORE SERIOUSLY.

  1. Wow amazing China, even there university is a copy from a different place. Lol
I guess you won't see inspirational quotes here like. Be innovative, be who you are or even nothing beats the original. I think this is more a tourist attraction than university.

    1. Actually yes, its kind-of touristic... coz they offer courses in Aviation and Hospitality Management. I admire this concept coz they give value to the high quality education in all aspects.

  2. This is at once awe inspiring and scary. It's awe inspiring that China would go to these lengths to imitate a British castle and style so perfectly. The attention to detail is astounding, it almost looks like being on Windsor Castle's grounds.
However, I must say the dressed up women look like stewardesses from the 1950s or 60s back in the days where women needed to look hot and sexy and be very thin in order to even qualify to be a stewardess. Makeup had to be perfect and always on, etc etc. I hope those are not the values being taught in 2016!

    1. Hello Brooke,

I admire also their university campus, and how their school system teaches their student at its highest quality. Contrary to your thoughts, the school teaches them to be professional - dress well according to professional standards. They dressed-up like stewardees coz that's what they applied for - they want to become a licenses and professional stewardees after finishing school.

I like there school uniform - looks like and you'll feel like starting to achieve your goal in aviation industry :)

    1. Hello Thuymi,

China aims to give their people (prioritizing people who can afford) things that are available outside China, so that their people would not leave the country, and just spend their money in China.

  4. The building is very impressive. I don't know many schools where the security guards travel in segways! It certainly looks very polished so it's easy to understand why parents want their children to attend the school.

    1. Hello!

Chinese believes that in order to achieve international standard, it should be seen and reflected too from their schools and management. They are just providing what the demand is.

  5. What a beautiful campus. Are those Segways only for the guards ? ;-) I don't know if I would be studying here or just having fun. It definitely would be hard to concentrate :D

    1. Hello Ami,

Yeah, only guards can use the Segways. They encourage students to walk just like normal students, coz walking is good for health.

  6. Totally amazed at how beautiful the campus is. Love the Big Ben replica. Not entirely sure about having a plane on campus lol seems very much like a theme park rather than a university.

They have an actual plane, because this University offer Aviation courses. That plane is part of educating them in preparation on the actual field. I find them very lucky :)

If I am a student here (especially a transferee) definitely I would spend my whole year taking selfies, and feeling distracted, hahaha. But on a contrary, this university produces one of the best pilots in China. They are good!

    1. Hello Paola,

Yeah they are into replicas, hahaha. But I think it makes sense. Like, why would you choose to go to England and study in English universities, where you can also study in China, having this kind of luxurious English-like facilities, and also administered by professors from top universities abroad.

I think China is doing this strategy to keep their people's money not going out of the country, and make cash flows intact.

  14. It looks a bit just like a show off imo. It's a university made for the public outside China to show their greatness. When going to the university it's not really about where you are going but what are you learning and how good that is. If all that money would have gone to students, the University would have been way better..!

    1. Being show-off will exist especially with this situation (and rich people sometimes doesn't realized they already showing-off). The school just want to make the whole learning experience and years be memorable, fruitful, and interactive as much.

    1. Hello Punita,

There might be distraction, but Chinese schools and universities are known having "cut-throat competition" just by getting a slot admission here. In spite of these luxurious ambiance, students are hesitant to take it for granted coz they are under strict surveillance with the admin and also with the parents :)
