Warning: Another very honest, almost no filter post.
Have you seen the beauty-blender-condom hack by some beauty bloggers online?
These past few days, I got so confused and really almost puke when these got trending to my social media feed.
The first thing that comes to my mind is …WHAT THE F*CK?!
Yes, and that is my reaction – not only do I feel disgusted with this tutorial/hack, and because I felt disgusted with these beauty gurus who teach their viewers and readers inappropriateness.
For all those who haven’t seen it – type the keyword “beauty blogger condom” on your Google and you’ll see. I won’t put the link here because I find it inappropriate. However, I will let you discover that tutorial.
As a fellow beauty blogger and influencer, I feel responsible for every piece of content that I’ve been sharing online – including to all my social media accounts. Every content is well researched, and I always consider my readers' and viewers' possible reactions (and put myself in their shoes) before finalizing and publishing each content.
And as an influencer, it is my responsibility to share accurate information, that is relatable and can be used and applied by my readers. Creating content just for the purpose of getting overnight fame and a number of views and follows, are not the #1 purpose why I created this blog.
To share quality information and helping to educate and spread awareness are the main purpose why this blog exists, and I will continue to do so, as long as my readers are happy.
That’s why no matter how many times I viewed that beauty-blender-condom-hack, I still don’t understand the main purpose of those beauty bloggers in sharing that disgusting hack.
Seriously, I don’t know what's in their minds while doing this stupid hack!
Here’s what I do understand: I and the online community share the same sentiments.
First, are these beauty bloggers teaching their viewers to save $$$ on beauty blenders?
Then what’s the purpose of that beauty blender per se? Are those super expensive, and with the same value as the latest Chanel handbag, just for you to teach viewers to treasure it most?
Beauty blenders are there to be used and to be disposed of after certain you’ve used them many times.
Beauty blenders are sponges, just like your home cleaning sponges that need to be disposed of after so many times of usage.
Second, are these beauty bloggers teaching their viewers to use things inappropriately?
Sponges are made for cleaning. Beauty-blender sponges are made for convenient make-up blending.
Condoms are used for protection during sexual encounters.
Isn’t these simple purposes not clear?
This video clip compiled by Cosmopolitan even gained 1.5M of views.
No matter how they said it's a “GENIUS IDEA” to use condoms for beauty-blender – I still feel so disgusted and I would never recommend you to try.
There are many crazy tutorials/hacks that work on you, but shouldn’t be shared in public.
Just keep it you yourself, will you?!
Am just so thankful that I haven’t seen (yet) beauty bloggers from the East who does and follow this beauty hack. Or many because here in the Eastern part of the globe, we are taught about the regular cleanliness – in all aspects of life, including all the things that we love and possess.
We definitely know how to save $$$ and be a cheapskate, but never to the extent that we use crazy tutorials like this just to save.
This is not a high-quality tutorial – this kind of tutorial teaches viewers to use odd methods that are inappropriate in all aspects.
Silicon sponge from Korean cosmetics RiRe
If you like to save more $$$ on your beauty blender and also easy to cleanse, why not use this silicone sponge?
Or learn the skills to properly use make-up brushes and call it a day.
I would really appreciate that video tutorial if it teaches viewers the proper use of condoms for protection – which I will call social awareness and definitely I will applaud them.
Yes, I use condoms for my personal-super-intimate use and NOT FOR MY MAKEUP!
(.. and if you want to know more about this department, you can email me).
I would prefer sharing valuable sex education for social awareness purposes, than share some ohh so stupid hacks that would mislead my readers.
And I treat this platform not only as my medium for information sharing but also as a business platform and my online portfolio.
Use condoms for protection and not for your make-up hacks. Period.
Any thoughts?
xoxo, Blair
I personally think they do this to get attention. Sadly, they get it. I don't even waste my time paying attention to this or any vulgarity.
ReplyDeleteHello Deimarys,
DeleteYeah same though as mine. When I saw this on my feed it truly raised both my brows and thinking wasting this method is. Not educational too.
So true, condom is for protection not for makeup, right. Some misleading concept should be filtered out.
ReplyDeleteHello Sunshine,
DeleteYou are right. On social media, its hard to filter this kind of attention. And imagine kids can easily access social media.. this kind of attention is I find too inappropriate :)
Every product has its own purpose. A condom definitely shouldn't be used as a beauty blender. What a no brained.
ReplyDeleteSo true. And I find this method too cheapo. A make-up blended is a sponge that needs to throw out after over usage. There is no point of saving it.
DeleteHuh?! How strange! I hadn't heard of this before, but now I'm amused. I'm with you though: keep condoms for protection!
ReplyDeleteThere are many ways to get your readers/viewers attention in a way that you won't mislead your audiences.
DeleteThis so-called hack is so shallow.
eww.. that is grossed.
ReplyDeleteis it new condom or used condom? but anyway, wont try it lol.
New condom to be put on your face is already grossed..
DeleteUsed condoms will be 100x grossed! LOL She just wants attention. Now she got it.
I am so agree with you. I can't brain of using a condom for sponge and apply on my face
ReplyDeleteA sponge is a sponge and its disposable, even a million-dollar sponge.
DeleteI like you cannot imagine using that device for makeup, or any other thing really other than the intended use of it. There is stuff they put with them in the wrapper. How can that be good in any other fashion??
ReplyDeleteSo true! I can imagine how men will feel that irk for this attention.
DeleteI literally have no words for this. I use RT miracle sponge and I wash it almost everyday to keep it clean. BTW, have you tried the silicon sponge?
ReplyDeleteAm using make-up brushes than sponges. Or may finger tips whenever brushes are not available.
Deletehahaha.... use it to do make up is really interesting.. XD
ReplyDeleteYeah.. well I understand she might be saving her makeup sponge because she both it expensively, but filming yourself and broadcasting it for other people's attention??
Deletebetter use it to your own, not share your hack.
This is really stupid. Where do these things come from?
ReplyDeleteIt comes from them - aspiring influencers who wants to influence their follows thinking they will spread this so-called awesome genius hack. It's a huge LOL
DeleteThis is the first I have heard of this, but I am totally with you on it. Yuck.
ReplyDeleteI applaud. It's a Yuck!
DeleteWow, I couldn't een imagine that some could have this idea in their heads! haha. For me, what's going on in makeup world, mosty on Instagram - tons of fooundation, extreme contouring etc is a bit scary...I want to say: girls, go easy on your makeup...less is better!
ReplyDeleteHigh five on that!
DeleteMy boyfriend even told me that he doesn't like me wearing heavy make-up and foundation, to the point he can't touch my face due too thickness of make-up. He find it too gross, LOL
So I invest on skincare :)
This is so weird. It's the first time I hear about this and I'm happy that my fb stayed clean of this subject. I do appreciate your honest opinion and I'm with you girl. The people on this earth are getting more stupid by every day.
ReplyDeleteYeah, for the sake of fame or number of views and hits?
DeleteI would never!
This grosses me out. I don't see how this is healthy for your skin. Who in their right mind came up with this?
ReplyDeleteTotally grossed and misleading.
DeleteWow I hadn't seen this yet. But it does sound super absurd! Thank you for this lighthearted perspective!
ReplyDeleteHello Shane,
DeleteJust don't let your friend follow this kind of hack because latex / rubbers are dangerous to skin even properly washed.
I had no idea about such a hack .Definitely safe sex is important and condom should used for the purpose. Responsible blogging is important .
ReplyDeleteI agree Amrita.
DeleteBeing responsible on what we write and share and say is a must. I would never share crazy things that works on me, that I know majority will react badly.
Hmm, to each their own? I find it amusing though except that yes, why spend more money on condoms when they can just use similar plastic? I guess doing 'unique' stuff is to gain public interest..
ReplyDeleteYeah but does it truly economical? Oh these influencers are becoming fame addicts. And that's dangerous in long-term.
DeleteI didn't even know this was a thing. It really makes no sense to me. It is a waste of money, and condoms on your face doesn't seem like a smart idea.
ReplyDeleteCondoms are made solely for safe sex protection. Period. And you can't alter that purpose.
DeleteThis is definitely a new one for me! lol... glad some like how it works. haha
ReplyDeleteHello dear, unfortunately most of us here felt disgusted to their hacks.
DeleteThis blog was cracking me up! Thank you for your honest and hilarious (and informative) review.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome MIA! Keep on browsing my blog and am glad I entertained your senses :)
DeleteOmg this is the first I have heard of this! YIKES. Things people come up with these day.
ReplyDeleteYeah they are doing it for fame and hits and doesn't think if its educational or they are being responsible influencers. DUH!
DeleteI've never heard of the silicon-sponge. Not sure what the benefit would be over other applicators since it's still susceptible to bacteria, but it's an interesting thought.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteThat's why sponges are meant to be used up to 4x max (in my case) and I tend to buy more sponges because no matter how you cleaned it, the bacteria will stays there.
Ahahah omg seriously...condoms for makeup...!!! Never heard about this...but it's really disgusting,I agree!
ReplyDeleteHello Chiara,
DeleteNo matter how much we love to save and we love make-up.. make-ups are disposable. Period. There is no point of saving this and use this awful hack.
I absolutely agree... I won't be using that as well... use condoms for protection and cheaper beauty blenders or disposable sponges from daiso for make up....how disgusting can that be...
ReplyDeleteI know right. Gosh I don't understand how much extent these influencers will do for the sake of online fame.
DeletePS. even her foundation NEVER MATCH to her skin!
Such a good read! I don't think I'll ever use it too!
ReplyDeleteHello Claudia,
DeleteNever teach your beauty friends with this hack!
I saw this "hack" pop up on facebook and just laughed, so I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's dumb. This is so stupid. If your sponge is that gross that you need to put plastic over it - just throw it out and get a new one. If you're that mad over the amount of product you waste by using a sponge, then use something else! It's not that hard to figure out. You don't need a "hack" like this!

Very well said Cameron, Amen!!!
DeleteHaha. I wonder what is next? Using another birth control contraceptive items under the bra?
ReplyDeleteWhat people do for fame.
LOL Oh my God I can't wait to laugh to that next hack!
DeleteOMG I love your honesty. I have to admit I had never heard of this trend but as soon a I googled it, I rolled my eyes. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteThanks Shannon! And always use a make-up brush. Period.
DeleteUse a brush made of camel's hair. Its expensive but a good investment, last longer and the hair is soft.
I don't even know why this is a trend. I think they've gone a little too far. I will never use condoms for my make-up. It's a little gross.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Its such a waste..
DeleteThose viral stuff caught my eyes too. Not even funny, I'm mean how nasty it can be! I will rather stick to my beauty blender forever!
ReplyDeletemuch love... GreenStory
Amen for that Tamanna :)
DeleteThe hack does sound a little too bizarre. Also it does not seem to have any utility value too. Probably it is better to get a pair of plastic gloves. :)
ReplyDeleteExactly!
DeleteSharing this hack and feeling like it a genius idea is stupid. How irresponsible influencers!
Such a good hacks and I love this tips, I always love a clean sponge after I do my make-up
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Angela :)
DeleteThis just makes no sense to me. It seems like a big waste of money and not like something you would want to put on your face.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's like they are fooling themselves.
DeleteHahaha, love this post! So much emotion :) I'm with you on this though.. WTF.. why on earth would you use condoms for this omg.. ridiculous!
ReplyDeletehahaha, just don't let your friends follow any crazy hacks.
DeleteOmg!what going on people? It so disgusted!
ReplyDeleteI know, and what I could only understand no matter I twirl my blog is they are attention-seekers.
DeleteWow this is insane! I would never do a post that would make me and others feel uncomfortable. BTW, I would love the Silicon sponge, would love to try it out soon! :)
ReplyDeleteHello Glenda,
DeleteThat silicon sponge is much safe to use and easy to clean and store.
Ok, this is kinda crazy and gross! Not into this at all

LOL I would never even DUREX will pay me millions!
DeleteI totally agree on what you had bring up!! Even think of it making me feel gross urgh. I am interested to try the silicon make up tool instead =)
ReplyDeleteHello Sharon,
DeleteFor obvious reason, silicon sponge is also better to use. And easy to clean because of its smooth surface.
Oh my I didn't know anything about this hack. Yeah i wouldn't buy it either. xx
ReplyDeleteIts totally grossed and I could say it as many times because its really.
DeleteI saw one video about other uses of condom such as cover to your wounds and cellphone protection, etc. I was like, ohh yes its nice but still a condom is a condom.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Anosa. It wasn't made as multi-purpose thing.
DeleteThis is hilarious! Totally agree, that's gross!
ReplyDeleteLOL I would never do this even for private make-up use. I'll rather use my finger tips.
DeleteThanks for sharing your advice. Hygene is most important thing to consider when it comes to make up.
ReplyDeletewww.learn2livefully.com
Very true. Thanks for visiting dear :)
DeleteWhat in the world????! I can not believe people are actually doing this. I can just picture parents walking into their daughters room and finding the condoms. So your having sex uh no their for my makeup smh
ReplyDeleteLOL I know and it will be causing misunderstanding. That's why this kind of tutorial shouldn't be shared, and just keep on themselves if they want to apply this hack.
DeleteLol this really was the most bizarre this ever!
ReplyDeleteSo true, but I would never ever do this. So grossed!
DeleteWow the things these beauty youtubers do! It's insane... I haven't seen this "trend" yet on my feed but I I really hope young girls don't follow and think it's really helping their makeup technique....
ReplyDeleteI agree Rosey.
DeleteOhh this morning, I saw a video were beauty vloggers are using tampons this time for their faces. I don't know how to extend they will do just to get famous. Tsk Tsk
