A FEW PERFUME GROUND RULES FOR TESTING, USING AND CHERISHING YOUR DREAM SCENT.
If you inhale perfumes for too long while testing at the store, you'll exhaust your scent receptors. The traditional trick of sniffing coffee beans jolts them back into action, but it's a little overkill. Do as the perfumers do and sniff a neutral area, like the crook of your elbow (where, presumably, you haven't been spraying anything); it will give your nose a break to recover.
It's a waste of good perfume!
To prevent the scent from overwhelming, choose one pulse point instead - the neck, behind the ears, or wrists - where your skin will warm the scent and gently diffuse it around you.
Allowing it to evaporate naturally on the skin keeps the scent pure.
Treat a perfume like a fine wine; the juice can degrade quickly when exposed to light, heat or air. Keep it anywhere but not in the bathroom. The temperature and humidity fluctuation in the bathroom quickly ruins your scent. Store on a vanity or shelf away from light, and with good care, perfumes can last for a year or more.
xoxo, Blair
I love perfumes but I use the sparingly. Thanks for the tip about keeping outside of the bathroom. Luckily I have never done that. I don't have a favourite scent. What about you?
ReplyDeleteMy recent favorite is Allure by Chanel which was a gift from my friend in France.
DeleteHaha I always spray in the air and walk through...but now I will stop. But I havent used any parfume ever since I got pregnant and now she is two years old. I smell like milk nowdays but eventually I will soon enough smelling like spring flowers!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Dada! We should always be smells good, even at worst times.
DeleteI keep my perfumes in the bathroom, had no idea it ruins the scent. I will put them somewhere else now for sure.
ReplyDeleteThat's good! I'm glad that this post helps you.
DeleteThe tips are just on point, thanks for sharing. I normally use my elbow joint while testing a new fragrance. I have also a separate shelf for my perfume collection.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Giving a right care for perfumes helps it last longer :D
DeleteI'll keep this in mind. I never know what perfumes I should use. I never want anything super strong.
ReplyDeleteHello Dear,
DeleteYou can visit the beauty store and there are perfume stores that could assist you on choosing the right perfume for you.
What a fun post. I have sprayed scents on me and in the air. I will remember the elbow trick! Thankfully I'm at least doing one thing right as my perfume is not in the bathroom!
ReplyDeleteThat's right! Well just noticed that you'll never see perfumes being displayed in miniature bathroom shelf whenever you visit the store.
DeleteI keep my bottles in the bathroom, guess I better go take them all out now. Thanks for the tip! I don't wear perfume often so my expensive bottle often go to waste, I need to get better with that.

ReplyDeleteHigh five on that Sarah :) What is your favorite scent recently?
DeleteI use a lot of roller balls because of the easy portability, so spraying in the air and walking through isn't much of an option for me, lol! I have a special dresser in my dresser where I keep my perfumes so they last a long time.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing tips Jen! Thank you!

DeleteWe definitely know how to treat a wine! We're one step closer to taking care of perfume ❤️
ReplyDeleteI agree, they both have similar principle regarding storing.
DeleteThis is great advice - good thing my cologne is kept in a cool place not in the bathroom! I tend to just spray my cologne on my clothes and not on my skin because I get a mild allergic reaction to it. It works well for me this way!
ReplyDeleteThat's another good tips! Thanks Milton :)
DeleteSome great tips there. I definitely go spraying perfumes whenever visiting sephora. And then I smell pretty funky because of all the scents mixed in. Best to just try few and walk around before deciding.

Deletegreat tips u got there! im not really a perfume wearer as my lotions are already well scented but knowing this info is always helpful! i wonder if the same goes with cologne? www.crayonized.com
ReplyDeleteHello Patricia,
DeleteYeah still the same. Although cologne can easily evaporate the scent due to more percentage of aqua.
this is actually some good advice for choosing a perfume for my wife. I've often been at the airport sampling many bottles, sort of similar.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's good.
DeleteAnd if you are not sure what is her favorite scent, you can buy those sample packs, and let her decide which is her favorite most. At least you wont spend much on huge bottles, that would end up not using.
I know a few people that store their perfume in the bathroom. I had no idea it lasts longer if you do not keep it in there. I like to have a few different scents to wear depending on my mood.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Claudia. Currently, what scent are your favorites?
DeleteGreat tips! I love perfume and it's not cheap. I want to be able to enjoy each bottle as long as possible.
ReplyDeleteYeah its not cheap, but every women must have at least one perfume for her life.
