Where to Dine at Sukhumvit, Bangkok

Where to Dine at Sukhumvit, Bangkok

When you are in Thailand, many of us will never miss these famous Thai food joints around. However, for those who are not a huge fan of Thai foods (I discovered that I’m just so-so for them) you got to look for places that would pleases your appetite, and not ended up dining at 24/7 McDonald’s.

During our Bangkok trip, we stayed at the famous Sukhumvit Road.

It is the longest road in Thailand with both many adjoining sois (sub-streets), and at first you don’t think you are in Bangkok because Sukhumvit lacks the Thai traditional tourist attractions, however this road is famous on many shopping centres, dining, and of course nightlife. You’ll see many fashionable restaurants, bars, air-conditioned malls, luxury hotels and hip clubs, all of these makes Sukhumvit Road a distinct modern and cosmopolitan appeal.

However during our recent visit which also marks the Thailand’s celebration of Buddha’s Lent, selling alcohol is not permitted during the whole weekend, and so as many bars and restaurants are closed for that season. Luckily, we found some good places to dine during this weekend.

So here are the few restaurants that we recommend, based on our first-hand experience when we had a short visit in Bangkok, and stayed in the famous long road Sukhumvit.

The Manhattan Fish Market at Terminal 21

This restaurant located at the upper floor of Terminal 21 Asok is something that you should try when you are in town. They served good food at the affordable price, and I also noticed that they have a huge servings, sometimes well enough for sharing!

The Manhattan Fish Market at Terminal 21
I tried their new Manhattan sandwich set of Fish ‘N Chick + drinks (199 baht) which I really enjoyed. I thought I can only have it during my late lunch, however I ended up still feeling full during night-time, hence skipping the dinner and just enjoyed a few slices of mangoes.

The Manhattan Fish Market at Terminal 21
They have an impressive selection of menus of salads, pasta, fish and ships, etc. where you can devour. And if you prefer the catch selection, you can choose the fish from their tanks, and they will cook it for you the way you like it based on their menu. How cool is that?!

Of course don’t forget their sharing platter selection, especially if you are dining with your family or your foodie friends.

El Gaucho Argentinian Steak House

As one of the few western restaurants opened during the night of the Buddha’s Lent, this Argentinian steakhouse is something you should try when you are in Sukhumvit. El Gaucho serves the beast steak in town, and the meat are imported all the way from Argentina.

It is only quite disappointing that we can’t have a wine to pair with this deliciously cooked steak, however the juiciness of this meat already satisfied our palate. We decided to pair it along with roasted sweet potatoes!

In order for me to distract on my wine cravings, I decided to have this selfie with these wine bottles they have. I noticed they have collection of good wines! Oh Buddha, you are making me crave for much!

Chili Culture Thai Kitchen

Of course it will be quite more disappointing if we won’t visit a Thai restaurant, so as per my boyfriend’s recommendation we visited the Chili Culture Thai Kitchen, just a few walks from our hotel. This humble and cozy restaurant serves traditional Thai foods, and if you like spicy foods they have it in 3 different levels of spice (you got to tell them how spicy you like it to be).

We ordered these chicken satay, golden catfish spicy salad and some side dishes.

And of course we tried these green and red curry and rice. Ohh boy, it was so good and spicy enough and I tend to eat lots of rice with it! Drinking water isn’t enough. The spices mixed in this curry is soo good and I love the unique aroma. If you are not familiar with curry, I suggest that you don’t crazy with it. Their meals are perfect for sharing.

Amore is already sweating a lot! I tend to eat a lot when I’m with him, which is (sometimes) good. Oh we ended up going home and rubbing his belly due to fullness.

They don’t serve alcohol as well, so we satisfy ourselves with some chilled sodas!

Overall, our little dining experience was fantastic. Definitely, we will coming back in Sukhumvit and visit other places in Bangkok, but maybe not during their holidays.

Have you visited Sukhumvit Road? Which restaurants you can recommend to us? I would love to read your comments below!
