Review: Red Planet Budget Hotel, is it worth it?

Red Planet Budget Hotel

Every budget traveler always has an eye on their next affordable accommodation. Though I admit that I can’t consider myself a budget traveler, more as a leisure traveler where I can spend my time rejuvenating my energy. However, if it's necessary and for convenience, I wouldn’t mind spending a night at a budget hotel.

Just like when I had this early function at the heart of Quezon City at 8:AM of Saturday, I realized that it would be a hassle for me to rise up early and prep, and book a GRABCar from BGC to Quezon City, and spend the early traffic jam, plus imagine the cost of it.

The best option is to stay at a budget-friendly place like Red Planet Hotel in Aurora Boulevard, just a few walks away to Novotel Hotel where the function held, and just along the busy streets of the Metro.

Reception

Since it is located in the busy district, I wouldn’t wonder if this is one of the busiest budget-hotel in the area. But luckily, I’ve got an overnight room (at least a family room, coz the rest are all taken).

You can’t ignore the existence of this red furry guy with its travel suitcase! I noticed its resemblance to the old Firefox logo. It is a red panda, an animal native to the Himalayas and southwestern China.

It was a fuss-free check-in process (I booked my stay a day ahead and downloaded their app to make it easier for check-in). At the reception, you will also notice the convenient “workspace” with three Apple monitor, I assumed that clients can use them but not sure if there are additional charges for those. Next to it is their displays of Red Planet merchandise that you can avail from the counter if you want some souvenir before you head home.

A closer look – those keyboards and monitors are really nice!

The lobby is spacious enough to have a place for those who want to do their work and reading. I’ve noticed that they have a daily supply of broadsheet newspapers, which clients and borrow.

Bedroom - The Family Room

Perhaps it was a busy weekend that they don’t have an available standard room, and I decided to take this Family Room coz it doesn’t matter. The Family Room has 1 Queen size, and 2 Single Beds, has a flat-screen television with cable (I checked, and it works all the channels), has a hairdryer (OMG that’s a plus!), fully airconditioned room (inverter-type), not the faulty one.

The room is super basic, no telephone available so if you need to speak with the reception staff, you have no choice but to meet them on the ground floor. Or you can use the common-use telephone along the hallway, outside your room.

Red Planet Budget Hotel
It has a humble desk that you can use when you want to do your work and stuff (got these working power outlet), or use it as your makeshift dining desk. They provide free use of this kettle; however, you have to provide your own coffee or tea. If you need those, you can buy them at the reception counter before or during your check-in (OR better, bring your own coffee!). Other snacks are available too.

NOTE: Guests can bring-in foods inside the room. HINDI BAWAL :D BAKA MAKATIPID KA PA!

The room has a safety deposit box for important belongings and a mini-fridge for your drinks.

Room Price: Total of Php3,097.00 (included some snacks I’ve bought from their counter).

Bathroom

I don’t expect a huge bathroom in this hotel however, it is a relief to know that it is has a clean bathroom. Fresh towels are available, and pairs of toothbrushes and Red Planet is another budget-hotel that promote minimizing of plastics that they don’t have mini toiletries and opt for a refillable option, which is permanently installed in the bathroom wall.

WIFI Connection

At first, I was a little skeptical about their speed claim, so I did a speed test!

As you can see in the picture above, it is a good claim though! I tried downloading + uploading heavy videos and never got an issue while using 3 gadgets simultaneously.

I recommend that you download the Red Planet app and register to get an instant 10% off discount on your bookings. It’s a good saving for your trips! Available on iTunes and Google Play.

Travel Tip: Check the inside walls of your Red Planet room for some exploring ideas around the city. You can take a picture of it and make it your guide map.

VERDICT:

Though I can’t consider my stay as one of those memorable overnight sleepovers, I can say that this hotel will be my next go-to sleepover next time that I have a function to attend in Quezon City (since I hate to commute and experienced long traffic). It is reliable, affordable, got a faster wi-fi connection so this is a good budget hotel.

  2. I love reading your hotel reviews. They give me so many options to stay. We usually travel on budget and love to live close to our sights and destinations. The Red Planet Budget hotel seems to be the perfect choice. And since we travel as family with a kid, the family bedroom seems to fit the bill perfectly.

  3. When I travel, the most important thing for me is to have a clean and quiet place. It is also important to be central so I can walk or easily reach the places I want to visit- of curse, in the big cities this is not so possible. Red Planet Hotels seems to have a bit of everything. the rooms and bathrooms are sparkly clean, the staff seems nice, very central. I would book here.

  6. It's interesting that they provide you a tea kettle but you need to bring in your own tea/coffee. That being said, as a budget traveller, Red Planet Hotel seems like a good deal to me. I would book it.

  7. The hotel looks like a good deal, despite being a "budget" hotel. The rooms and restrooms look super clean and that is a must for me when I travel. I loved the little fun fact about the firefox browser actually being a red panda. Thats so cool!

  9. It’s always good to read about budget options, especially when it comes to hotels as the accommodations end up being the bulk of my travel expense anyway. Given the busy location as well as the price point, I guess that a stay at this place should be booked well in advance. The rooms seems comfortable and I am sure having the high-speed WiFi is a huge plus. Quite a budget friendly find indeed!

  10. Great review! I love the red panda! I never knew that it was actually a red panda, very interesting fact. This hotel doesn't look to bad for a budget hotel. I personally tend to go with budget hotels more often than not (don't get me wrong-I do love a luxury hotel stay), but when I am just looking for a place to sleep budget is the way to go. I enjoyed reading your thoughts on the hotel.

  11. I haven't heard of the Red Planet Hotels chain. I will gladly consider this hotel when I am going to Asia. I plan a trip to Indonesia and the Philippines, so it's might be a good idea to stay in these hotels. It is a great, detailed review. It encourages a lot to stay at this hotel.

  12. I'm all about budget accommodations - short of staying in hostels now that I have a family. In my opinion it's honestly where you lay your head at night and that is all. This is super nice! What's not to like? It's immaculately clean, and has all of the essentials. The work space looks great too. I'd love to bring my family back to Asia in the next year or so, I'm going to book a stay here. It looks spacious enough for the three of us!

  14. I'm all about budget accomodation options to have the ability to travel more frequently! And I spend so little time in my room it doesn't need to be luxurious. Thank you for the honest rundown on your experience!

  15. Great review, very comprehensive and the photos are extremely useful. Overall, the Red Planet Budget hotel sounds like a great option, the room has a good size and although the bathroom doesn't look anything special, the most important thing is that it's sparkling clean. Thank you for sharing this!

  16. It seems really sterile and white, but I am all about budget. It's great that the internet speed was good. I never think to check that!

  17. For me, yes. It's affordable and I love the amenities. When I go on business trips, I prefer this one. However, if I go on travelling, I prefer Airbnb more. :D

  19. I always search for budget places to stay and especially those in the middle of busy areas because they're usually close to the most happening streets and locales. Red Planet Hotel seems to fit that bill. It looks basic but comfortable, and I absolutely love the furry red animal they picked as their mascot.

  20. Whenever I pass by Red Planet, I think in EDSA (not so sure anymore), I always had this impression that it's a dorm type of hotel. It kinda looks cozy though!

Although I haven't tried Red Planet yet, i'll make sure to keep note of this for cases like what happened to you. It's nice to know there are affordable budget hotels that look nice and clean here in the metro. :)
