Disney's newest Christmas Advert feat. the Filipinos Tradition of Christmas, and gives us so many feels

Prepare some extra facial tissues...and huge your Grandma!

Only 7-weeks to wait and Christmas is finally here!
And for us who loves the Christmas season, there is no excuse to celebrate it with family (or friends!) even in times of pandemic.

And if you have a Filipino friend, I'm pretty sure that your friends have been proudly sharing their many Filipino Christmas traditions and memories of their childhood, and I bet you that they've been inviting you for so many years to experience this tradition.

This time, Disney is inviting us worldwide to experience the unique and genuine Filipino tradition, through their latest 2020 Christmas Advert.

As a Filipino (myself) and grew up in a very traditional family, this latest advert gives us so many feels.
While times change, and people grow our love for our family still stays and never fades.

Disney presented the Filipino tradition on-point, in this 3-minute Christmas advert which gives us so many feels, and here's the lowdown.

1. Filipinos have a tradition of bringing "homecoming gifts" for their children. These are items you brought from your trips (usually overseas) and what makes a good gift is a Mickey Mouse doll!

2. Disney also shows the Filipino's way of greeting elders by reaching the elder's hand and putting on your forehead, while simultaneously saying "Mano po." - 0:17

3. Filipino kids who grew up in a traditional family, always seek the parent's permission in receiving gifts from others. - 0:22

4. Filipino families who migrated overseas for many years, and many of them just like Lola loves to care for their grandchildren.

5. Filipinos have a tradition of giving heirloom gifts to someone they dearly love. When a Filipino grandma gives you her favorite toy, that means she loves you so much! Don't waste it! - 0:42

6. Filipinos have a signature Christmas star lantern design, and every year Filipino families do this craft and passed it on from generation to generation. - 0:46

7. Filipino Grandmas are the best! They love to care for their grandchildren why their parents are away.  - 0:58

8. That is why no matter how much we grew up and gained new hobbies in life, never ignore your loving Grandma just because she is old, and not cool in your eyes anymore. - 1:32

9.  Christmas brings back memories, and this dear Grandma treasures her beautiful Christmas memories of her childhood back in the Philippines.

10. Time is the greatest gift. Spend time with your family, build many awesome memories while it lasts. Because memories with your family, make you feel at home.

  30. we are very traditional in terms of celebrating christmass,,,most families start to put christmass decors with the start of september onwards.spending it with the whole family is my favorite part..siblings who lives far away will likely to spend it complete with their parents...and for us its not about the gift,,just to be with each other is already enough

  32. Dang it...I was not ready this morning for this video!! How amazing! I love the whole story of the little girl in 1940 receiving her first Mickey Mouse doll and then passing it down to her grand daughter. But I LOVE the whole making of the paper star lantern tradition! I had not ever heard of it before but I LOVE IT. I hope you dont mind this Cuban boy borrowing this tradition and creating this experience with his new wife!

    1. Aww our traditions are not applicable to be trademark, that's why we are happy that others also follow our traditions, and create your own sets of family traditions. Making a lantern is actually quite tricky. The frame is made of bamboo strips, and meticulously tried them using strings. Making this lantern together symbolizes unity in the family, and traditionally we made a lantern frame that would last for years and then save the frame for the next Christmas.
