Then & Now: Hotel Lucky Chinatown Review

Hotel Lucky Chinatown hotel review
It’s been two years ago since my first stay at Hotel Lucky Chinatown back in April 2019, a week after their official opening. I remember I was at my home in Bonifacio Global City, and thinking of visiting Binondo Manila and surrounds for a day, and decided to book my 2-nights stay at the hotel so I can fully enjoy the surrounds, and to avoid rushing the heavy traffic going home.

Hotel Location

Located along Reina Regente St. and De La Reina Street just south of Recto Avenue and Divisoria, the hotel is in close proximity to a number of tourist destinations in the area such as St. Peter’s Episcopal Church situated in Plaza San Lorenzo Ruiz, New Binondo Chinatown Arch, National Museum, the historic Escolta Street, as well as major shopping malls like the adjacent Lucky Chinatown Mall, 999 Mall, and 168 Mall.

The hotel is just around 40 minutes away from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Resorts World Manila, and the Makati Central Business District, and just 30 minutes away from the Entertainment City and Manila Bay area.

If you are in Resorts World Manila, you can take a taxi from there to the hotel, or if you are a member of the Resorts World Casino, you can access their free shuttle bus from the casino to the hotel, and vice versa.

From my residence in Bonifacio Global City, it took me 35-minutes (with medium traffic flow) to reach the hotel.

Arrival Experience

I booked my reservation online, and upon my arrival at the hotel, I showed the concierge my email confirmation of my reservation. They are kind enough to facilitate my check-in, told me the inclusive of my stay, etc. I noticed that the lobby was in total silence, probably because they just newly opened that week, but can’t deny how clean the whole place is. Overall, it was a very lovely experience.

For my 2-nights stay, I took a studio-type 24sqm room, with a Queen-size bed, and other amenities that I needed. The room comes with a spacious closet, which I find very impressive along with a huge wall mirror next to the door towards the comfort room.

The room has a flat-screen V, mini-refrigerator, in-room safe, WIFI access, coffee and tea facilities, writing desk, telephone, bed amenities, bathroom amenities, bathrobes, and hairdryer.

Food Experience

My 2-nights stay comes with free breakfast which I admit was one of the good experiences in staying at Hotel Lucky Chinatown. I also got a chance to chit-chat with the dining staff including the chef, coz it seems like I’m the only guest during those days.

Although that time they haven’t offer a buffet breakfast, and only have limited food options (which is understandable), what they served that time is truly nice. I got to see how the chef prepared my scrambled egg the way I like it, my favorite pancakes as well.

I asked them how’s their day-to-day life in the hotel, and most of them are saying that it was always an exciting they. I hope that it is still the same feeling even after two years especially this time of the pandemic.

These amazing staffs of Hotel Lucky Chinatown are so nice to me, and I do hope that they are all still in the same hotel and have the same energy.

Other Facilities:

During my visit, some of their facilities are not yet ready for the guests, but I got the chance to visit some that are available.

Just on the same floor of the lobby is the Zabana Bar, where you can enjoy a few sips with your friends after a good dinner.

They have an impressive spacious lobby has very comfortable lounge seats and good WIFI access. Next to the Zabana Bar, is the Café de Chinatown (which at that time is not yet available).

The dining area is also spacious and got lots of tables even for the group dining experience. The lights are perfect, and I reckon many guests also appreciate this kind of setting.

They also have big conference/function rooms intended for a bigger number of guests capacity.

Another distinct feature of this hotel is their very own Atrium, located on the 5th floor. It is a Zen Garden that blooms with its own sunroof surrounded by select guest rooms.

They also have a spa, fitness center, (both are temporarily closed due to COVID), sauna, and steam bath, including jacuzzi.

Staying at Hotel Lucky Chinatown during COVID 2021

The Hotel Lucky Chinatown, along with its other sister property under the Megaworld Hotels & Resorts brand has been given the ‘Safety Seal’ certification from the Department of Tourism, which means that the properties are compliant with the Minimum Public Health Standards (MPHS) including the adoption and use of the StaySafe.ph application in all properties for the purpose of contact tracing.
Megaworld Hotels & Resorts has added another layer of safety for its guests after having vaccinated 95 percent of its 1,154 hotel-based staff and personnel who are actively working in the various properties during this pandemic. The firm said those vaccinated include teams from the front office, housekeeping, food and beverage, engineering, sales and marketing, finance, executive, human resources, and security in different hotel locations around the country.

As of this writing, in compliance with the Philippine government’s mandate on hotel accommodations, Hotel Lucky Chinatown prohibits reservations for the purpose of business, leisure, or staycation with stay dates falling within the community quarantine period.

Meanwhile, they are open to accepting guests whose purpose of stay meets one of the following categories:
Foreign guests who are in transit, or staying short-stay prior to departure (except countries listed under the travel restriction issued by the Philippine government).
Distressed and repatriated OFWs in compliance with approved quarantine protocols.
Non-OFWs are required to undergo mandatory facility-based quarantine.
Stranded passengers, and
Frontliners, including medical workers, government employees, and employees from establishments that are allowed to operate within the community quarantine period.

Verdict:

I had an amazing time staying at Hotel Lucky Chinatown, and even though I haven’t had the chance to experience their other facilities, I am looking forward to visiting again, when I came back to the Philippines. The most memorable experience is meeting the hotel staff and how energetic they are. The service is impressive, and I can see myself visiting again soon.

  7. I haven't really stayed in the Binondo as we normally book hotels near MOA or Makati but it's nice to know that there are good places to stay in the area. Happy to know that food is great too. Will consider this during our future trips.
