Pretty sure you’ve heard this proverbial quote for hundred times throughout your life. Through the years, I’ve learned to see positivity in any adversities that came to my life, and recently I applied this same quote in my upcycling lifestyle.
I sourced materials locally from various op-shops and garage sales, including useful materials that are been dumped from the curbside road, and when a lightbulb of ideas comes in, I feel excited!
Instead of spending my money on buying brand-new materials, I used what is available second-hand.
Like this white dress that I made months ago using the lace textile I have in my stash (if I remember it correctly, it was given to me by my grandma), and a second-hand white duvet cover that my neighbor gave me when she is clearing out her house to move in another state.
Just like having lemons, I made these unwanted textiles to use and made something that I love to wear.
My inner fashionista spirit is very happy knowing that I creatively made something special while helping to minimize the growing textile waste in our community. I still have yards of leftover white cotton textiles in my stash which I will be using for the next upcycling project.
The journey of upcycling will continue.
PS – forgive the wrinkly dress. I’m trying to save energy!
The sequined handbag and snakeskin heels are both from the op-shop.
