And I suspect that back home in the Philippines, you will start hearing Mariah Carey, and Jose Marie Chan wherever you go!
Indeed, many of us Filipinos will start counting the days to Christmas Day!
I have no concrete plans yet for the Christmas season, however, what is most certain is the amount of upcycling projects I have on my list, which makes me even more excited.
To start the southern hemisphere’s spring season, I would like to share one of my recent upcycled dresses, using my stepson’s old Coca-Cola shirt.
A few months ago, he celebrated his 18th birthday, and I still couldn’t fathom that he was already an adult.
I still remember when he had this shirt when he was 15 years old (and doesn’t fit him anymore!).
Instead of sending it to the donation bin, I kept it for a while, until recently when I finally got the design I had in mind.
Together with other textile remnants in my collection bin and a few t-shirt cuts, I started working on my magic.
Due to the recent passing of the famous artistic and revolutionary British fashion designer, the late Vivienne Westwood, I decided to create a dress that was inspired by her funky personality, and the use of experimental textures.
I also used these shirt logos and attached them to the back of my dress. No initial sketches were made, only following whatever goes in my mind.
And here is the final dress!
You can tell that this dress also has that LOGOMANIA appeal which makes this dress quite interesting. It also has that Tokyo Street style fashion inspiration which I always loved.
To make the styling a bit Avant Garde, I decided to wear this dress with a petticoat skirt I bought from the local op shop.
What do you think of this dress?
Should I make a more flamboyant outfit using upcycled textiles?
Let’s see where it goes.
You're so talented to put together a dress from all those pieces! It's cute but a bit too flamboyant for me.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cinny! I tried my best to upcycle and minimize our textile waste at home. And I love to dress-up even wearing a little flamboyant just to uplift my mood.
