My love for op-shopping is undeniably true. And if I'm forced to do a confession, chances are I may say that I am an addict.
Currently, one of our rooms is dedicated as my walk-in closet extension, with all the piles of good finds, carefully organized and hung using Kmart hangers. That room is off-limits for everyone, including my cats, coz I don’t want them to naughtily play with the long hems of my dresses.
I may have told you that I’m an op shop fashion addict, but I know my limits.
I successfully learned the art of mix-and-matching my op-shop finds and styled them together with my upcycled clothes.
Just like this current look!
This yellow-green shirt ($4.00) is from the op shop in Drouin that I found in the men’s section. The checkered pants is also from the men’s section at Vinnies Warragul for $8.00. I made this denim top using the old jeans, and this crochet handbag that I recently made by upcycling my old UNIQLO dress.
But with all this op-shopping addiction, I honestly despise fast fashion!
The amount of enormous textile waste it created over the years is giving me so much anxiety, however, I still watched several fast fashion documentaries to keep myself informed of the current situation. I recommend you watch this latest documentary Al Jazeera produced recently, and it is very insightful.
This is why I have specific instructions at home regarding unwanted and outgrown clothes. Most of my stepchildren’s clothing is upcycled into a new piece of clothing that I wear (I often call it a wearable art!), and I make some fillers for our shoes and bags for storage.
With regards to my closet?
I reckon my husband needs to build me another one as my no-baby present!
