The Book Stop Project at BGC

The Book Stop Project at Bonifacio Global City

Books have been my first love.

I remember back in my childhood days when my Dad brought me these Popular Science Encyclopedias. I don’t understand then what it says on those books, however the pictures have successfully translates its meaning to me. Then these books became my guide throughout my school days.

Back in college, in order to gain access to those good books in our library, I befriend our uptight librarian.

I know it was a naughty moved, however I succeeded! I gained access to all those good books she managed to not lend to students back then (for unknown reasons) and even I managed to lend her those books and take home for my reading. Of course with the promise of bringing it back to her the next morning, along with her favourite cup of coffee.

And I became a bookworm. I’ve been the library resident back then, and believe me I am so happy!
I even thought I should continue my studies to become a librarian.

But things have changed…. I didn’t become a librarian.

But my love for books still not changed.

I’ve collected books from various trade book shops I’ve visited because that is where I could found my little treasures, without breaking my bank account.

My apartment then have stoked many books, mostly have topics about travel, European cultures and some fiction books.

But I have to let them go when I decided to moved here in Manila. It is hard to bid goodbyes to all those books I’ve collected for years. They are been my comfort for many nights, and saves me a lot for not going out and shop, just happily reading them while sipping my favorite wine of the day.
Then I decided to have my collection of books be adopted by my librarian friend. I am very much thankful for her, and I know my books will be at good hands.

*****

Same as what I did recently when I decided to bid goodbye to some of my books stored in my home.
My attention was easily got caught by this catchy, The Book Stop Project – a pop up library that is now standing proudly in High Street, Bonifacio Global City. I knew my books will be in good hands when I decided to leave it there, and someone could make use of them.

This pop-up library was designed by the clever team of WTA Architecture Design Studio. With the advocacy of promoting reading books anywhere, the team have built pop-up library and installed it to various locations in the city where there are heavy foot traffic.

This project reminds me of a pigeon-sized library in one university in Shanghai, were students can read and borrow books for free.

And who wouldn’t make a pause when you saw this?

You see, there is no excuse of not enjoying reading. With this modern days when ebooks are available and can be stored in your phones, still flipping old pages of books and the aroma is unbeatable.

Books truly helps us travel to many places, allowing our minds to work and explore our imagination. It helps us to be creative, logical, learned to be more patient, and gained more inspirations.

So if you happened to see these many pop-up library in your city, please don’t hesitate to pay a visit.

  8. Encourage people to read is a great idea. I was not an avid reader and I was afraid that my kids won't like to read because of me. Now that I know that my kids love to read, I read to them almost every night before they go to bed.

  10. It is certainly a popular idea, even here in the States. Many suburbs and towns have these honor system libraries. I've left books at one nearby my home and I've borrowed a book or two from the same. Richard B

  14. I love books and have always enjoyed reading. This is a great idea! In my neighborhood there are little libraries in front of some homes where you can help yourself to a book. Whenever I go for a walk I will stop by and grab a book or leave a book. It is a great way to encourage people to read.
