Happy, excited and relaxed – these are some of the emotions that travelers should experience while on a well-deserved holiday. However, according to a recent study by Sompo Holdings Asia (Sompo Asia), the most common emotion is not one of these. In their research among 5,000 samples across 5 Asian countries, Sompo Asia found that 9 out of 10 travelers want to have intense experiences and enjoy things that break up the boredom of their day-to-day lives. However, many travelers do not think travel insurance is essential until they encounter an unfortunate incident that leaves them feeling helpless and distressed.
These travellers shares their unfortunate travel experiences:
JOVELYN MATEO - Travel & Lifestyle Blogger
"Naiwan ako ng plane, and that's the last flight going to Bohol that day. I had to book another flight to Cebu then go to Bohol via boat. I cancelled my booked accommodation and tours as well, because I arrived late in Bohol."
JANNI DAQUIGAN - Fooddie and Traveller
"We got lost while walking along the freeway in Brunei. It was Raya and there were no cars passing by."ELAINE DOMINGO - Content Creator
"First time to travel and on my last day, I got stucked at Baguio's Park with only Php5.00 on-hand. I've asked my Mom to send me money via Cebuana Lhuillier, unfortunately they don'y accepted my school ID."ANGELICA CORTEZ JOSE - Writer and Urban Explorer
"Our flight to Hong Kong got delayed by 4-hours. Then when we were preparing to land (circling around HK), we had to contend with high winds because of a storm so the pilot decided to just go back to the Philippines. We went back the next day to the airport to make our second attempt to get to HK, and we made it on time."

You're welcome! Don't forget to join the contests :D
DeleteWe do travel to escape boredom. And not every travel experience has been perfect. Interesting to see the range of issues that others have faced when travelling. We have been robbed. My son had his walled stolen at a hostel. We have arrived on day later than we booked reservations for. And we have had to come home one week early (at our cost) when we got sick. I can’t imagine my plane being turned around and sent back home because of high winds.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your unfortunate travel experience. Yes not all travel are always sweet.
DeleteOh my! Asia has been so welcoming to me and my friends on our travels, we never had any really bad issues.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Please explore more of Asia :D
DeleteI bet they are going to get some great stories from this. I can't wait to hear some of them so I can learn from their mistakes.
ReplyDeleteMistakes makes life interesting!
Deletethe pictures are just wow!! thank you for sharing all those account!!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Asia, so I definitely won't win this contest but good luck to all the unlucky travelers!
ReplyDeleteYou can join too! Maybe you will be chosen and win a round trip to Japan!
DeleteOh dang i missed the deadline. Would have love to take a stab at this contest. But some of the experiences here were hilarious but im pretty sure they were stressful for the people who experienced them.
ReplyDeleteHope you can visit Japan soon!
DeleteWhat a fun contest and a great way to remind everyone how important it is to be covered while traveling. The story about circling over Hong Kong in an airplane and then having to go back is crazy! I'd be so annoyed.
ReplyDeleteAww that is true, but if its for safety then I would (slowly) understand.
Deleteany unfortunate things during the travel is part of the adventure!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting contest! I've traveled in Asia a lot and I've found that it works best for me to plan as little as possible. That way, when something inevitably goes wrong, I am flexible and can always find a way to work it out. Luckily, I have had no major problems while traveling in Asia and I actually kind of enjoy the little backfires, like a bus that's delayed or a boat that's cancelled. It forces you to be creative and adventurous.
ReplyDeleteYou are a creative traveler, and can turn cons to pros!
DeleteThis is a great idea for a competition and it is interesting to read the stories. I’ve missed flights and had various issues on my travels but mishaps make it an adventure I say! When I was in the Philippines, the boats that were mentioned in the rough Guide to get from one island to another weren't available so we chartered our own plan... that was fun! I look forward to reading more about Asia’s most unfortunate travellers.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing! Hope you had so much fun during your stay here in the Philippines :D
DeleteThanks for sharing these information. I would love to submit my story too. However, I believe that none of your travel trip is an unfortunate event unless you make it one.
ReplyDeleteYay you must join! That free trip to Japan is a cool prize!
DeleteIt looks like you had a wonderful time and stopped at several beautiful spots.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Luna :D
DeleteI'm not sure I have unfortunate travel stories to share, but lemme think.....................
ReplyDeleteWell, in 2004 we were coming home from New York and San Francisco and when we arrived in Manila, we were told that our baggages were left and will arrive on the next flight. HA! We had to come back the next day, stand at the same conveyor belt, and claim our bags.
Not very unfortunate, I think. But anyway, we had to wait to give my parents our pasalubong!
This is awesome! Well, this is the perfect example on how we try to make something positive out of the negatives. Though I personally do not have an experience that might win in this competition, I am looking forward to see the entries and hear their stories. This is very exciting. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't have (yet) unfortunately travel experience, and am actually looking forward to it :D
DeleteAaawww man! I'd love to enter, but I donhave any diaster stories! Haha
ReplyDeleteaawww! Please vote those who have join :D
DeleteI live in Japan and I never had a unfortunate event in traveling around the country. I just am lucky.
ReplyDeleteYOU ARE TRULY LUCKY! How to be you?! :D
DeleteI would love to live in Asia. Many times, I wish I would have pursued teaching English as a career so I could have went worked overseas
ReplyDeleteThere are still many opportunities here in Asia if you want to teach English language. Like in China, there are many who teaches English language online, and it is an in-demand opportunities.
DeleteThis is enlightening and fun to read at the same time. Not that I am happy about your unfortunate experiences. I missed the due date but is it unfortunate enough that I sat beside a passenger long haul with flatulence and no insurance covers that!
ReplyDeleteThis is the reason why we should invest on travel insurance :)
DeleteI have tons of 'unfortunate' experiences traveling. One time, my flight going home to the Philippines from Japan left me. I had to rebook and stay in the airport for 5 hours. Hahaha! There was also a time when my I forgot my luggage combination! They don't have TSA in the airport so I spent the evening manually trying all the combinations!
ReplyDeleteOhh that is unfortunate, but now you are smiling and that is good :)
Deletei should have joined this contest. my daughter caught chicken pox upon our arrival in taiwan. and our supposedly trips to tourist destinations turned into hospital errands.
ReplyDeleteDid you get her a travel insurance?
DeleteI've had some pretty crazy adventures in Asia, but I don't think anything like mentioned above, and I'm very grateful for that, haha!
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome Christopher!
DeleteI have traveled a lot in Asia and I have been lucky enough that I never had to face any unfortunate experience. Fingers Crossed!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really cool contest! I wish I had an unfortunate travel so I could enter.
ReplyDeleteThis will be your opportunity to use your unfortunate experience into something - like free trip!
DeleteA very fun and unique contest but I was just checking that who will take photo in an unfortunate situation. Like this contest requires photo and I found it very funny as in crisis our mind does not work enough to take pictures. I am looking forward to read some more stories as with some of them I can relate myself.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, those unfortunate events are the those that is hard to forget :D
DeleteHa. These are good stories! I had myself an unfortunate. We have decided to take 1 scooter for 3 people. In the end we had a massive crash on a highway (fault of the other driver). Luckily we only needed basic aid. Just no more swimming with the sharks :D
ReplyDeleteYay, I am not brave enough to swim with the sharks, even I'm inside the protective cage.
