It has been such gloomy, bipolar weather we have here in Gippsland VIC and I’ve been stuck indoors for a while and enjoying my other crafting projects.
Meanwhile, it would be great to share with you one of my recent upcycling projects using a vintage babydoll sleeping dress that I acquired from Vintage Vibes Gippsland Opshop. I only got it for $4.00.
And I can tell that this is one of the easiest upcycling projects I did in more than 3 years.
This was the original vintage-style babydoll sleepwear. This kind of sleepwear was popularized in the 1950s and I was immediately drawn to it. The cuteness and simplicity of the design is something that is quite rare nowadays, and whenever it's rare – then I like it! The dress is made of cotton.
Another reason that intrigues my curiosity is the sewing technique in the upper chest of the bodice. It creates a weaved design, using folded strips of fabric, and I realized that I could use a similar technique in upcycling other textiles.
I decided to upcycle this dress and turn it into an outdoor spring/summer dress rather than just let it stays in my bedroom. I use the best and most practical upcycling technique – just cut them in half, and add elastics on the waist part of the skirt. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you can do it using hand-stitching or some use textile glue to seal the fabrics together.

@blair.villanueva no need to buy designer clothes when I can upcycle and style it my own. I got this #vintage#sleepwear from #opshop and turn it into a #spring dress! This is the easiest diy I made! #diytok#upcyclingfashion#thrift#circularfashion#tiktokphilippines#tiktokindia#tiktokaustralia#fashiontiktok#fashion#thriftflip#warragul♬ Made You Look - Meghan Trainor
