And with a little bit of precision, chaos can be beautiful!
Just like this latest upcycled dress, I made using my stepson’s old clothes.
It was a bit chaotic in the beginning, with all these outgrown clothes with bits of holes here and there, however, I managed to find a way to minimize our textile waste.
In the beginning, it was quite a challenge. It took me probably 3 days of careful research, constant checking on the fabric, and browsing my Pinterest for more inspiration. The plan is to retain the original look of this Joker shirt and add more flair to the whole dress.
I didn’t make any sketches (been lazy to do that) and everything is in my brain living rent-free.
Until I found inspiration online, based on the experimental and chaotic fashion of Japanese fashionistas. I love Japanese fashion, because they don’t follow the Western rules of fashion, and they prefer to unleash their style spirit through their clothes. Individuality rocks!
With patience and a little bit of tweaking, I successfully came up with the design that I love!
If you may notice, I love volumized dresses, oversized hoodies, and ruffles, lots of ruffles!
This dress with heaps of patterns and textures, making the dress chaotic and beautiful. I made a lot of head turns when I wore it during my recent gallery visit in Melbourne, and I admit that I love the feeling. I started a conversation about upcycling clothes with other gallery visitors, and even my grandma (whom I tagged along with me) was impressed.
I love Melbourne! My 65-year-old Grandma took this photo! |
Until next upcycling fashion series!
