There is something cool about varsity jackets. This sporty apparel that many school jocks wore back in high school gives a sort of status symbol – like you’ve got to earn it.
Nowadays, you can see them everywhere and they found their stage in streetwear fashion. It became part of the retro-sport aesthetic, and you don’t have to be from an Ivy League school to have it. Varsity jackets are the latest preppy item to hold influence beyond the soccer pitch, as seen on show-goers in Copenhagen and on the catwalks in Paris.
Even the late Lady Diana Spencer is a huge fan of varsity jackets.
Many famous brands such as Moncler, and the late Virgil Abloh made eye-catching varsity jackets for the Off-White autumn/winter 2022 show, even the bikie brand Harley Davidson for its commemorative 120th-anniversary varsity jacket.
However, finding the right varsity jacket wasn’t that easy. The varsity jacket must speak to your personality to get the overall look.
So, when I found this varsity jacket last summer (during my trip to the Philippines), I knew that this is one of the best pieces of streetwear that I must add to my collection.
The jacket is from the My Philippine Lifestyle, a local Philippine clothing brand specializing in souvenir shirts and sporty apparel. This jacket is in a men’s (large) size, oversized enough for my own style.
I love the design of this varsity jacket, featuring the icons that symbolize The Philippines. The color palette and fabric are perfect (although they need to make the pockets deeper) and are versatile to style with my other clothes.
