In my case, there is no point in easily throwing away my old clothes, not until I analyze their potential and upgrade into something fancier and cooler than their original.
That’s what I do and I’m good at it.
This time, I worked on my old Kmart jumper set I bought two years ago. It served its purpose and now needs a little upgrade, adding more fabric to make it more breathable, and comfortable.
@blair.villanueva Hey girlies! I finally done #upcycling my old #kmart jumper into something #cutesy and #demure. I also #verymindful used some secondhand textiles, and blinged it with some sequins I bought from @kmartaustralia #notsponsored #refashion #sustainablefashion #fashionblogger #australianfashion #sewing #diy #fyp ♬ Cute - CLOUDEE
My upcycling designs are most of the time, spontaneous. It means my designs depend on the available materials on hand, and what’s on my mind during the day I was in the process. In this project, I managed to use the black jumper that my stepson used to own, and a few textile remnants from the previous projects, and cut out some letters which I accessorized with the sequins I got for a discount from the local Kmart store. The beading took a while to finish coz I just hand-stitched them all, and it was all worth it.
The result looks a little funk and disco, thanks to the playlist I was listening to during the process of upcycling.
I did have a lot of fun (and a lot of mess on our carpet) and I’m glad that I managed to create another set of clothing that I love and extend the life of my old one.
Isn’t that amazing?!
