Enjoying Sumptous Dining at Mercato Hong Kong

Mercato Hong Kong, food and travel in Hong Kong, best restaurants in Hong Kong, Hong Kong travel
Italian food does not have to be cheesy and heavy. The newly-opened Mercato Hong Kong by 3 Michelin-starred Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten offers light and refreshing modern Italian food that will blow your mind. The menu reflects his signature flair for balancing flavors and textures and blending in exotic & aromatic flavors of the East.. The most impressive one was the Wild Mushrooms, Three Cheese & Farm Eggs Pizza that was “light as air” and we’re surprised to find Chinese Cordyceps atop the pizza which was incredibly compatible in taste! Find out more about the dishes in each photos and book a table to explore more delectable dishes yourselves.

Wild Mushrooms, Three Cheeses and Farm Eggs HK, $188 – Don’t miss this wooden oven baked pizza as the light texture and flavor will surely impress you! Though it used three cheeses, we didn’t feel cheesy at all. The Chinese Cordyceps were surprisingly matched with all the Western ingredients!

House Made Ricotta with Strawberry, Olive Oil and Garlic Bread, $118 – This seems to be the most ordinary & down-to-earth dish but to our surprise it’s extraordinary scrumptious! The house-made Ricotta was light and smooth, well balanced with the strawberry jam which wasn’t too sweet. Highly recommended!

Italian Cream Cake, Raspberry Sorbet with Fresh Raspberry $68 – Creamy and slightly sweet. Raspberry is wisely used to match the cake so to reduce the creaminess of the cake filing.

Lightly Fried Calamari, Spicy Tomato Sauce with Black Olives and Capers, $118 – Another must-try appetizer. Love the super crispiness of the batter and freshness of the squid, best eaten with a dip of the house made spicy tomato sauce which gives an exotic hint of Asia.

Spicy Tuna Tartar with Black Olives, Cucumber, Avocado and Mint, $148 – A nice one to give a good spicy kick to the taste buds!

Endive and Sugar Snap Pea Salad, Parmesan Dressing and Herbs - $108, It’s fresh and crispy but the endive is a bit too bitter to our liking.

Rigatoni and Meatballs, Smoked Chili Tomato Ragu - $128/168 – The rigatoni was extremely al dente and the tomato ragu was not intensively flavored but fairly light and refreshing indeed.

Capellini, Golden Garlic, Jalapenos, Herbs and Fresh Ricotta, $108/128
Tasted a bit like Chinese dry-mixed noodles, so you can tell how light it was tasted despite the use of Ricotta.

Crispy Skin Chicken, Raised Potatoes with Lemon, Golden Onion, Green Chili and Herbs $178
Skin of chicken was as crispy as its name, but a little bland for the meat and best eaten with the braised potatoes which were slightly sour.

Affogato Sundae with Espresso Gelato, Chocolate Fudge, Vanilla Meringue, and Cinnamon Crumble $68 – Highly recommended dessert for coffee lover! The smooth Espresso Gelato and aromatic espresso are the perfect match, suggest to skip the coffee and have this dessert instead to round up your meal!

Blueberry Lemon Crostada, Crème Fraiche, $68 – This is a good one for those who prefer dessert with a bit chunky texture. The sweet blueberry has balanced off the sourness of lemon and composed a light flavor that won’t be cloying.

Tiramisu, $68 – Looked like a giant Oreo and dry, but tasted heavenly soft and light with remarkable strong aroma of coffee.

Green Apple Basil, $88 – Green Apple, Lemon, Basil Leaves, Soda Mocktails at Mercato are all refreshing type and tend to be a bit sour. This one is like a non-alcoholic version of Mojito.

Ciao Fragola, $88 – Strawberry, Caramel, Lemon, Soda. This must be girls’ favorite! With lemon to balance the sweetness of strawberry & caramel, making it a lightly sweeten and refreshing mocktail.

Caramella Sour, $88 – Toffnut, Apricot, Lemon, Ginger Beer – Thought it’s a sweet mocktail but the lemon again well balanced off the sweetness.
