#SaySomethingNice

Have you ever experienced being a judge because of your style?

Me? I experienced it a hundred times (very hard to count).

Just only last weekend, I was wearing this DIY-cropped top (picture above) and my weekend market shorts (but hey it's from UNIQLO!) and my kicks - went to SM Aura for my weekend shopping for groceries, then I decided to drop by at the SM Aura's beauty store. I was checking some new lippies to add to my collection, I even ended up swatch-ing this matte-lipstick from Revlon counter, when the Revlon lady approached me and without hesitation, staring at me from head-to-toe-then-back-with-matching-eyebrow-raise-kinda-bitchy-look and says:

"Are you buying??? You seem you can't afford."

I wasn't in the mood to be feel bitchy..

But this Revon girl seems ohh nope ... she is judging me.

Just because I was wearing a cropped top and a poor lady's shorts???

I won't allow her to ruin my day, so I just smiled and walk-out... making sure she sees me going to the Maybelline counter and bought the latest lipstick full collection.

I'm not saying I don't judge people.

Because I do. I don't exclude myself just because I'm writing this post.

I also judge someone on television watching runways, and other shows.

As a fashion blogger and critic, it is my job to judge and give constructive criticism - but I admit that sometimes, out of the blue - I can't help blurting out judgy comments, my only way to release my disappointment. Not other's fault but I couldn't help it.

And I feel guilty after (of course).

Well, a correction sometimes. hahaha

Another story:

I have attended this product launch at the famous club in the town - attended by known celebrities, online influencers, fellow fashion bloggers, etc. When I saw this group of a clique of fashion bloggers owning massive IG followers, to greet them and say HI - I suddenly stopped when I saw their glaring-judgy eyes staring at me from head to toe, they laugh at each other.

Yeah, I felt a little humiliated (inside).

But then I told myself - damn I'm better!

I was invited because the PR and Management team believes in my works and passion.

And I know and everyone knows that I am kicking-ass.

Which makes me think...

If we minimize judging others because of their style - the world would be a better place. Sounds dreamy but I find it's true. Women will understand more fellow women; Women will gain more friends, and Women will be more accepting. Not judging others, and rather say something nice, will give you a smile and a window (or doors!) from her life.

I'm guilty of this.

That's why I will give my pledge, together with fellow supporters and influencers for this movement.
To say something nice, and not judge the others.

I want to be part of your life.

And it is my great privilege.

I challenge you to do the same.

xoxo, Blair

  1. I actually recently wrote a post about why judging others is more about you and not them. I think we all do it for different reasons in different situations. As a salesperson though, I think she should not have made that comment. You are a customer.

    1. Thank you sis... I admit that it still happens here in the Philippines. There are times they give priority someone who dresses well. It is sad but true. Pity, coz I like that brand.

  2. I hate judgmental people, even though I know it can happen sometimes unintentionally. I really like this campaign. It's funny, to me, to have snobby bloggers looking down at people because most bloggers - whether they are hobbyists or paid professionals - don't share all of their story when they post online. Chances are they took a million photos for that one perfect one on IG (which is ok, nothing wrong with it) but why act like they just woke up perfect?

Also, I'm curious to what your weekend shorts look like because I think the top is cute.

  3. It is desirable to be non-judgmental,after all we would not know all the circumstances to pass judgement on someone else.

  4. I'm sad to say I've had this happened when my friends and I were shopping for prom dresses in highschool. People just on skin complexion, perceived social status and more. This is a great campaign to align with. I'm sorry that happened to you!

  9. OH my gosh, yes. It reminds me of that scene in Pretty Woman. When Julia Roberts goes to a really fancy store and they don't even acknowledge her and, when they do, they just assume she can't afford things because of her appearance.

  10. I don't understand why people judge you on what you wear and the fact they think they can how much money somebody has by thier clothes! I worked in Harvey Nichols a few years ago & learnt you can never judge a sale through an outfit

  13. I have heard of a lot of people being judged for their style. Whether guy or girl I think that happens to some degree. We always are having people try to measure us by someone else's standards. We really need to stop that and not worry about what others think, but I know that it is very hard.

    1. Yeah, but still the fact that most of the people are very visual. Our brains are trained that all things nice and pretty are good.

We need to be more open for reality.

Normally i will walked out while saying loudly to my friends, "let's go buy from somewhere else. The staff here are so not friendly."

  26. Yep, been there and have been judged. While buying clothes at a high end store I dont wanna name ;), I was judged by 1 girl but instead I bought more stuff from the same counter, asked the register girl to add another sales lady name for commissions and also told them about my experience. Its just not fair to be judged and should be spoken wherever needed.
