How to Choose the Right Carpet for Your Home

How to Choose the Right Carpet for Your Home

Modern homes have moved toward a colder more chic look in the last couple of years with more tiling than carpeting.

However, carpets remain incredibly popular with designers and homeowners. Which doesn’t come as a huge surprise given that they add and warmth and homeliness to a house in a way that modern features seem to simply lack.

So if you are looking for a carpet and it’s your first time buying, then we have a few tips for you.

Read through our beginner’s tips and your first time buying a carpet should be an instant success:

Consider the room

First things first, you need to decide where your carpet is going to go. The room that your carpet is going to cover is going to impact the size, colour, shape and texture of your carpet.
If you are looking for a carpet for your bedroom, then a more neutral, soft carpet is perfect or a more brightly coloured one for the children’s rooms.
However, other rooms in the house are bound to get more foot traffic and as such, they will need to be made of a material that is hardier and more difficult to wear down.

Colours

One of the most important aspects to consider when it comes to carpets is the colour. You need to ensure the carpet either blends in with the room that is placed in or becomes the statement piece of that room.
You shouldn’t install white or light carpets in areas that have high traffic, high chances of getting food or drink on, or in a place where your children love to hang out.
If you aren’t sure how to envision your carpet in the room and become hesitant about whether the colour will suit it - then an easy and effective solution is to bring parts of that room with you.
Curtain drape colours, wall colours and other furniture should be considered and some small samples bought in for comparisons.

Consider the kind of carpet

You also need to consider the specific kind of carpet that is going to go well in the room that you choose. Here are some of the most popular kinds that you can choose from:

Loop Pile: Loop pile carpets come in two sizes, level loop and multi-loop pile heights. Loop pile carpets provide comfort underfoot and are more suited to living rooms and bedrooms. Due to their textured design, they give the look of sophistication and luxury.

Twist Pile: Although twist carpets are visually soft by design, they also provide a lot of practicality through design. These carpets are perfect for a busy family home.

Plush Pile: As its name describes, it is a plush cut pile carpet that is soft in texture and is usually placed in the bedroom. It is soft underfoot and often displays shading through footprint and vacuuming tracking.

Frieze Pile: This style has a more shaggy appearance. It is more durable and often has a longer pile height.

  45. Though I really love some carpets in the drawing room with a pop of color, the usage of carpets heavily depends on the climatic conditions. In my home in India, the normal weather ranges for 28 to 40 deg Celsius and there's a lot of dust in my locality as well. A carpet for my home doesn't make any sense at all!
