Yay or Nay? Uniqlo x Marimekko Collection 2018

Uniqlo x Marimekko Collection 2018

Marimekko and UNIQLO, a Japanese global apparel retailer, announced their partnership on a special edition collaboration collection which will be available for a limited time only. The new collection for women will comprise a complete line of items that brighten lifestyles by combining the timelessly bold and vibrant print designs of Marimekko with the quality and comfort of UNIQLO’s casual street style.

The collection will embody a shared commitment by the two companies to enhancing daily living. For Marimekko, this is through its mission of empowering people to be happy as they are and bringing joy to their everyday lives through bold prints and colours, while UNIQLO is committed to creating LifeWear – high quality clothing that is functional and reasonably priced – to suit everyone’s daily lifestyles.

Uniqlo x Marimekko Collection 2018

I've been an avid supporter of Uniqlo for years because of how comfortable and stylish the designs they have, and also for many limited-edition collaborations they've have for years. Especially that collaboration with Hana Tajima is phenomenal.

However for this collection, I personally think this is a no-brainer.

Uniqlo as always have perfectly showcased its signature cut and silhouettes of their clothes and dresses, but this new collaboration with Marimekko prints makes me feel I would pass for this 2018 collection.

"....share the joy of bold self-expression in print and colour...."

but, would it last like LifeWear?

The black-and-white polka dot prints gives that retro-chic vibe, however with the other polka-dot prints vividly reminds me of Yayoi Kusama's works, (actually I would definitely jump for this polka dot collection thing IF it is a collaboration with Yayoi Kusama), and so as to the prints that I find nothing so special. Well maybe the only difference is that, this is a collaboration with the Finnish design house.

Or maybe releasing this collaboration would be the preview of what Uniqlo will be when they opened its stores in the Nordic region.

Yup, I'm into something BOLD and SPECTACULAR and COLORFUL PRINTS!

But I just feel that UNIQLO can do better than this.

Okay enough! I'm seeing Cruella Deville in the picture!

The Marimekko and UNIQLO collection will arrive at UNIQLO stores and at UNIQLO.com in Europe, Australia, Canada and the United States on Thursday 29 March, in Asia on Friday 30 March, and in Russia in early April 2018.

What do you think of this collection?

Well it will be a YAY for me too, but I prefer a not so-closed polka-dots. I like it that has a distance, like at least inches apart.

  7. I say yay to that green pants, and nay to the rest of them. Sad to see what Marimekko and Uniqlo come up with this time.

The polka dot and that flower on white background reminds me of a cheap clothes I found in a local market.

Totally disappointed. They can just use their iconic flower patterns but nope! Here's some lame patterns that make it to the shelves only because there's name Marimekko attached to it.

I'm sorry for my language, but I love both of these brands. And their poorly designed patterns make me angry. They obviously could do better than that.

    1. Hello Chalisa,

Wow, truly I love your honesty!

I am also disappointed for this collection, Uniqlo can do better. Like I've said - its a no-brainer collection.

Yeah, my Mom think so that these pieces looks so cheap due to the design prints. Polka dots prints should be okay, but it should be printed not like this. I like polka dots that are not so bold, with little distances.

      Well said, Chalisa :D

  8. OMG, i had the same thought! Cruella devil it is! The design is a little dissapointing to me honestly. I wish they put more effort into creating a statment piece rather than just this.
