Review - Pan Pacific Manila

Pan Pacific Manila, hotels and resorts, Philippine Travel, travel, Forbes Travel Guide 2018, hotels in Manila, blairvillanueva

It has been months that I have to endure this unfavorable weather here in Manila – dark clouds that makes this city gloomy, then a sudden rain that will lead to unexpected flooding, etc. This situation is not good at all – although travelling nowadays is not advisable for now due to a stronger yin of the ghost month, I decided to have a moment of hiatus on my travels, and looked back on my previous trips.

Last March 2018, I was feeling the stress that needs an immediate attention. Therefore, I decided to have a spontaneous weekend at Pan Pacific Manila, and to be in a different environment for a change.
It was not my first time to stay at Pan Pacific Manila (it was 8-years ago), but still the hotel always warms my heart each time I make this at my weekend home. It is one of the early luxury hotels in Manila, and am glad that they remain, although I must admire that the surroundings might turn-off the many first-timers who was not into a nightlife, but open your mind a bit, and you will see its magical flair.

Pan Pacific Manila offers a remarkable experience to their guests. They are the first hotel in Manila that offers a Butler’s Service – an outstanding service that attends their guests needs exclusively during their stay. Feels like you are in Downton Abbey having your Mr. Somebody, to attend your needs like assisting you to take-off your coat, preparing your bed for bedtime, making our bathroom ready, ironing your clothes, or asking your butler to prepare you a delightful snacks at 2AM, etc.

Their butler service is one of the remarkable service of Pan Pacific Manila, in fact Master Butler Wayne Fitsharris, the director of The International Guild of Butlers and House Managers, went to Pan Pacific Manila in 2011 to professionally train hotel butlers and staff.

Moreover, this simple pleasure is very rewarding, and of course, with cost – you should try it sometime.

The Guestroom

This hotel might be in its prime age, but the rooms are still impressive almost nothings have changed since my first visits.

The guestroom is expansive and I like the interior layout. My assigned room have huge mirrors inside which adds the illusion of much bigger spaces. This elegant, modern look reminiscent of Japanese minimalism. Earth tones with wooden and pearl accents give the hotel a familiar Filipino warmth.

There is an impressive workspace with a good ergonomic executive chair (sit and feel like a boss!) and a telephone in the table that caters both local and international calls. I could never heard my steps due to this good carpet they have installed.

Who would resist a huge mirror, right?

This queen-sized bed is indeed one of my favorite in this hotel. They have a thick duvet in two-layers, and if you are not comfortable with their clean, white pillows, they also have a pillow menu at the bedside table, and just call the room service hotline for the pillow of your choice, with no additional cost.

On the upper headboard displayed the old photographs of Manila’s prime buildings.

For entertainment, they have a flat screen television installed on the wall, and an impressive cable channels. If you opt for a movie experience, they also have some selection at additional cost. I never opt that service coz it was not necessary, and the only channels I have watched are HBO and NHK World.

This is a face of a happy and pampered tai-tai.

Inside of this huge closet are extra pillows, an ironing rack, many hangers for your trousers and dresses, your bedroom slippers and laundry bags, and safety deposit box for your valuable belongings. The closet is truly spacious that two people can still fit inside and hide.

The Bathroom
Just like some of the hotels’ I have reviewed, the Pan Pacific Manila’s guestroom bathroom is one of those oozing with luxury.

Inside this double-door bathroom lays the complimentary premium bath supplies I have needed for the weekend (you can request for refill if you want).

They installed a vanity mirror and a hair dryer. I honestly turn-off when a hotel does not have available hair dryer inside the room, only shows that they do not care enough to their guests. They also have available weighing scale for your own usage.

I felt so at home that I gladly placed my weekend personal skincare in this bathroom.

On the left side is the separate toilet seat, and an enclosed rain shower room. Am glad that they still have not changed, placing two bathrobes in their rooms by default. They still have the soft cotton fabric for their robes, and the same fresh scents that I have experienced in my many visits here.

Behold, where the nirvana is.

This Jacuzzi bathtub is so luxurious beyond my vocabulary. They gave me some bath salt for my consumption, and many towels. Enjoy the jacuzzi while overlooking the city outside that window, while sipping your favorite drinks and watching your favorite cable channel.

Who needs a swimming pool if you can have your own private jacuzzi party inside your room. This jacuzzi can fit for two persons. It is indeed a pity that mon amour wasn’t with me – but I promised him that we could do this when he came back from his business trip. Isn’t it amazing?!

I could spend for hours here and never get bored. The warm bubbles helps to massages my back and legs, a perfect indulgence to remove my stress and other negativities on this body. This is my happy place – no worries, and just enjoying each moment of my alone time, sipping my favorite drink, and watching NHK World series about travel.

I would never get tired doing this in regular basis, and I would trade everything for a moment like this.

The outdoor of Pan Pacific Manila

Pan Pacific Manila also have a business centre where you can enjoy many kinds of entertainment and restaurant and café selection. In the building also located a small casino.

They have this outdoor pool with a poolside bar, a fitness centre, a parking and valet services.
During my recent visit, there are parts of this pool undergoing construction so it was not so much enjoyable. And some parts of the pool side have cracks that needs immediate upgrade.

This is the top lounge area below the pool area and next to the bar. It is a nice place to enjoy your sunbathing without someone disturbing your peace.

You can also request for a private candlelit dinner and the expert butlers will arrange it for you.

One of the most iconic parts of Pan Pacific Manila is the scenic glass elevator, which gives you a stunning view of bustling Malate and Manila Bay while ascending to the guest rooms.

During one night of my stay, I was still busy working with my articles when I felt so hungry I decided to order take-out and ask my butler to deliver it to my room. No sweat and it is so convenient!

You will also enjoy the fuss-free and efficient check-in and checkout process – thanks to the separate counters for guests coming in and out of the hotel.

Although the breakfast buffet of Pan Pacific Manila is truly impressive (I used to have a breakfast here with them, indulging their foods for two hours!) I opted to book the place sans the breakfast, so I could have opportunity to try the Japanese and Korean restaurants surrounding the hotel.

This room cost for roughly, Php5,900 sans breakfast.

Verdict:
I had a delighted weekend at Pan Pacific Manila. It has been many years but their services and touch have not changed since then. It was an amazing weekend that I recommend that you try staying here for a weekend. Although there is an instance that intrigues me most (I will share it on my separate post), overall, staying at Pan Pacific Manila is all worth it.

    1. When you are in Pan Pacific, you don't need to use the pool (it's small and when kids are around it tends to be chaotic). Better use the Jacuzzi!

It's so true that sometimes you just need to relax somewhere special in your own location without the stress of travel and this staycation at the Pan Pacific sure seems to have done that for you.
