Blogging gives me an amazing experience, and when I was starting typing my thoughts – I couldn’t imagine that there is something wonderful going to happen to me during the course of blogging. I start this blog to share my inner thoughts and views on things, which keeps me occupied. Then through constant reading online, I learned that I can do something out of my blog, and the rest is history.
Back in the day, influencer marketing is not a huge buzz – in fact, I haven’t heard it yet.
But one day, I was browsing some lifestyle stories in Singapore, and I stumbled about Nuffnang.
Nuffnang, the first social media influencer marketing in Asia (actually it was a blogging agency then) that aims to helps bloggers like me to be more creative, and help to monetize my blog. No one has ever thought that before, but the founder Cheo Ming Shen did.
Me… the poor, newbie blogger
I like the whole concept, and ideas – and was glad that they have the Philippines office (after it pioneered in Malaysia and Singapore… then eventually Australia!), and I joined online (2011). It was still new but I have the feeling then that this will grow bigger.
To make sure I made the right decision, I checked their early rosters of influencers that include WendyCheng, aka Xiaxue whom I have been stalking since the beginning of her blogging career (even before her aesthetic surgeries!).
I already have that strong feeling that this new phenomenon will be huge as time goes, and when it hit that point I will feel proud to think that I did the right decision.
In February 2014, I started cashing my Nuffnang earnings from the ads! Yay, that wasn’t too grand however I feel great as well. Who would knew that a humble website of mine will earn my first $ from ads alone?!
Then 2015, I got an email from our blog manager Ms. G and added me for their latest local advertorial campaign. I got my first advertorial and collaborated with McDonald’s’ OMG!!!
I was so happy and felt motivated while staring at my 5-figure cheque!
Then got two or three more campaigns, with a generous paycheck and the last one is a campaign with Huawei, where I got my most reliable blogging smartphone – my gold Huawei P9, which never leaves by my side wherever I go and became a constant reminder of my humble beginnings as a blogger.
And take a look nowadays…. Influencer marketing is a huge fact-check big deal and no wonder that many want to have a slice of that cake. Back then, it was not such a big deal for us – we are just enjoying what we do… passion for writing and sharing experiences.
So realizing the end of Nuffnang’s chapter quite made me feel blue.
Yes, I have been following their years of the saga and backstabbing on the business side, and many ongoing dramas in the Singapore and Malaysia office, and the end of Dayre. me one of the early micro-blogging platforms Boss Ming also started, etc. However, it made me feel sad that this would come.
Although I wasn’t in that top-tier of talents they handle in the Philippines, still the idea that Nuffnang did it first before anyone else does is a huge milestone in the content and influencer marketing industry.
Ah, I miss those days where the blogging circle is so healthy and harmonious. Unlike today’s full of drama, backstabbing, throwing shits, breaking-up good friendships, etc. making this industry more exhausting, stressful, and cut-throat.
Why am writing this?
I’m now in this industry for almost 8-years now and I’ve seen how this industry grows faster than my Mom’s mango trees. After all the acquired learnings and opportunities through this course, I still couldn’t help looking back, at my humble beginnings.
Nuffnang is one of the first agencies and teams who helped me to see these opportunities and show me the right path to where I am right now.
And for that, I thank you, Nuffnang.
Thank you to the Nuffnang Philippines team for making me realized that there are more opportunities waiting out there, and giving me passage to that open window. Met great friends, new partners, clients, etc. You lit a flicker of light during my early days of blogging.
Thank you for the Nuffnang Singapore especially for its founder Boss Ming (as we called him) for all of what you have done for us bloggers. Without your genius ideas, the blogging industry all the way here in the Philippines wouldn't be like this. You have shown us the ways.
Thank you for believing in me.
Au revoir, Nuffnang…
….and see you around!
….and see you around!
xo, Blair

ReplyDeleteYeah I heard they opened also in UK for a short period of time, then focused on Southeast Asia. How I wish they managed it well internally. I am saddened that they need to reach this point where they need to bid goodbyes.
DeleteI too love the adventures that blogging gives me. I get so exciting when people ask me about my website after I share health info.

I'm a newer blogger so it's interesting to see how something has grown and changes over the years through the eyes of another blogger. It's crazy how saturated the market is for blogging now.
