PHOTOS: Fashion in Times of Isolation, I'm dreaming of Ziad Nakad

Many of us thought that 2020 would be a great year especially in fashion, unfortunately, this was blocked by a Covid-19 pandemic. Several runway shows had been suspended, and at present embracing the new norm of digital runway shows, and livestreaming. Even the Men’s Fashion Week is now moved to an indefinite schedule due to the uncertainty of this Covid19.

In a release sent to the fashion industry, France’s Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode writes, “In light of the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic worldwide, strong decisions are required to ensure the safety and health of houses, their employees, and everyone working in our industry.”

While the cancellation of both weeks seems a wise choice amid the spread of the coronavirus—men’s and couture bring thousands of designers, models, editors, stylists, buyers, photographers, and other industry professionals to Paris—hope is not lost for the spring 2021 men’s and fall 2020 couture collections. “The Fédération is actively working with its members on possible alternatives,” the release concludes.

For this new fashion normalcy, I couldn’t help of wishing that we turn back time to 2019, and skipped 2020. However, as reality check maybe this is was meant to happen.

For now, what I can do is to dream of wearing one of Ziad Nakad’s magical dresses which was released back in January for the Spring Summer 2020.

The idea of Atlantis — the "lost" island subcontinent often idealized as an advanced, utopian society holding wisdom that could bring world peace — has captivated dreamers, occultists and New Agers for generations.

Ziad Nakad imagines, for his Spring Summer 2020 Couture collection, the Modern-Day Warrior Princesse.

The celebration of fierceness, softness, determination, ingenuity, and compassion that makes up the Modern-Day Warrior Princess is electric and eclectic: tulle, silk, and taffeta mixed with organza and chiffon emphasize the mermaid silhouettes.

The Modern-Day Warrior Princesses, have been able to play to the strength of being female, to celebrate their femininity, not to shy away from it or downplay it: crystals, beads, feathers, all handmade details, are underlining all shades of blue, water green, sun yellow, peach, and gold.
A hymn to sensuality, as fluid as the sea and as bright as the sun.
