How to Make Crochet Christmas Baubles (better than Spotlight!)

diy Christmas Baubles
First, I would like to thank you all first for continuing to visit my blog! I always feel happy sharing with my stories about travel, lifestyle, a little beauty tips, and recently some of my special hobbies. Living here in Australia is such a beautiful experience, and I feel like being a kid again, especially living here in Gippsland, Victoria.

Things are starting to do well here in Victoria, and we are currently enjoying a little freedom of movement following the mandated guidelines of restrictions, and safety.

We can now enjoy more walks around the town and visit the parks for exercise. After all, it is the spring season, and it would be a shame not to enjoy this beautiful nature.

If you have been following my Instagram posts, I’ve been enjoying upcycling fabrics and turning them into wearable dresses! There are still many projects waiting to be processed, but I decided to take a break and focus my attention on another hobby!

Ohh, did I mention that I already installed our Christmas tree?!

Apparently, Aussies doesn’t do Christmas decorations months in-advance the way Filipinos are. I guess this is one of the things I will miss the Philippines. You will see many shops getting ready to displays their new Christmas decorations stocks in the first week of September. And try visiting a Filipino home and you’ll find that that shiny red and green combo, all dominating the whole décor.

Now, I am bringing the Filipino Christmas feels here in our Australian home. My Christmas tree is now up, and we installed colorful fairy lights that I got from eBay.

That is why I’m here sharing you how to make crochet Christmas bauble!
And yes, I am serious when I said – better than Spotlight.

You see, I love having things fancy but different from the rest. The fashion world calls it curated. I love curating things for myself and gives me so much joy being different.

Materials needed:

Polystyrene balls – it is lightweight and won’t break easily.
Acrylic yarn of your choice (either you bought it brand new or you got it from the op shop)
Crochet hook
A pair of scissors (apology, mine is rusty but served me well)
Some fancy sticker sheets (I chose the metallic stars and rhinestones)
some ribbons of your choice.
Needles and thread

Where should I begin?

You see, I am always fascinated with traditional crafting and one of these is making amigurumi. Amigurumi is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small, stuffed yarn but instead of using fiber filling or scrap fabric, in this tutorial, I used the polystyrene balls.

Using the basic double stitching crochet, I wrapped this polystyrene ball with my chosen red and white acrylic yarn. There is no specific pattern I could share but hope the pictures can do justice.

Red and white are the best traditional Christmas color theme, and this 2020 deserves a great Christmas celebration despite the many challenges we are facing right now.

There is NO EXCUSE to celebrate Christmas!

Time for decorating these balls!

I got these sparkly metallic stars and rhinestones stickers from Umart which are perfect décor for my crochet baubles.

These stickers are great, especially if you don’t have a glue gun with you.

Then attached ribbons on the top and secure it by sewing it. Then finished it with that little sparkle to the center to hide the thread.

And here’s my finished crochet Christmas baubles!

Isn’t they both look adorable?!

I am delighted with these results and I’m thinking of making a few for my Christmas tree. This is also a great Christmas gift for your friends. It is personal, curated and one of a kind because it is hand-crafted.
There will be more design I have in mind and I would be happy to share with you my works.

Are you also excited for Christmas?!

    1. Aww thank you CA! Indeed, I got so many ideas in my head and always excited to create new projects. I had my dull moments too. Last year, I wasn't blogging well and even pending my crafting projects coz I don't have the motivation, and my situation never fits. Now, it is way better and I am more happy to continue my passion.
