Make Lamb, Not Walls: This Australian ad parody is what we really need to start 2021!

You've heard how Australians are one of the nicest people on Earth, located on the southern part of the hemisphere, and if you have Australian friends, you already know their unique ways of telling humor.

This Australian ad parody is too hilarious but makes a lot of sense!

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) has released its highly anticipated annual summer ad for Australian Lamb which calls on the nation to unite over some lamb and laughs.

Building on the Share the Lamb brand platform, the integrated campaign created by The Monkeys part of Accenture Interactive reflects upon 2020 as a pivotal time in our history where, for the first time, Australia was physically divided due to the pandemic.

“2020 has been a year that has really tested the Australian spirit. For the first time in our history having hard borders between states has challenged how to stay connected as individuals and as a country," MLA domestic market manager Graeme Yardy says.

"As a brand that celebrates unity and the power of coming together, this year in the ad, we wanted to remind Australians that we are always stronger together. Our hope for 2021 will be that the virtual get-togethers of the last 12 months, will be replaced with an Aussie lamb barbie, the most unifying, and delicious meal of all.”

The long-form advert directed by Ariel Martin from Airbag takes viewers to a not-so-distant future where the division between states has escalated to new heights.

In the year 2031, a once united nation is divided by a great wall, towering over every state border.

It’s a tongue-in-cheek take on what could be if state borders are shut for good, but this un-Australian division can’t last forever.

In the film, viewers see the great unification of Australia sparked by the scent of lamb through cracks in the wall.

As the hero is overwhelmed by the irresistible aroma and begins smashing at the wall that separates him from Queensland, a hand appears through the crack holding a perfectly cooked piece of lamb.

This beacon of hope triggers Aussies around the country to tear down the Great State Walls and reunite over a delicious lamb BBQ.

  1. I'm literally rolling on the floor laughing! This is super funny! As a Asian, sitting between USA & Australia, following international news and has heard of both USA & Australia, this is very very funny! United to stand, ofcourse, even if its just for lamb!

  2. For a moment I was wondering why the old gentleman was poking the wall. But as it unfolded, it became hilarious. The girl taking pictures and the bulldozer coming through and the people trying to break the wall with such small tools. And finally the end with lamb barbeque--it's an interesting advertisement. The unity message is really nice.

  3. That is absolutely hilarious but makes perfect sense in so many ways. Lamb can make all the difference! Reminds of the times I spent in South Africa and almost everyday I was feasting on lambs because it was so delicious there and so cheap, too! This tv advertisements nailed it. It shows how uniting can change the world as well as just a simple scent of lamb! HAHA

  5. Good old aussie sense of humour. Good to be able to have a laugh at a time like this when there's not much travel happening.

  6. Love this ad! That part with the Tasmanians made me laugh out loud. There must have been some inside jokes that I might have missed though. But as a foodie, I totally understand that one might do anything for that grilled lamb. It has been proven time and again that food unites people.

    1. Yes, so many inside jokes and a little of sending a message (in a political way). If you noticed the New South Wall, that is a message sending to USA when Trump wants to build his wall in Mexico border. That can't be happening here in Australia, and will never be. About the Tasmanians, the inside jokes is that only a few number of people lives in Tasmania. A good roasted lamb meat is always gives a good impression, and Aussies loves their barbeque!
