Self-therapy
Be mindful and be present. You can only do what you can today. Don’t let the past define you or the unknown future stifle you. Be aware of where you are and what you are doing, even if that’s a second to appreciate the fresh apple you had for breakfast or the shoes on your feet. Try and take a moment each day to reconnect the mind; to find your equilibrium. Our emotions can get the better of us and make us feel anxious, moody, or even sad. When you begin to spot the warning signs, take a moment. Step outside or find a quiet corner and get the balance back.Have a go at facial yoga
Heard of ‘the owl’, ‘swan neck’, or ‘giraffe’? Probably not, but these are some of the movements which make up the practice of facial yoga, one of the latest wellbeing trends to catch the eye of many health gurus. Facial yoga is a great way to improve the appearance of skin-strengthening and toning the muscles in the face and neck – smoothing the skin, boosting collagen and elastin, and firming up the face, all while relaxing any tension in the mind. Plus, improving circulation so you can achieve that healthy glow.
Start a new hobby
What better time to throw yourself into a new hobby than at the start of the season. Whether you take up crochet, trampolining, journaling, or upcycling, it’s going to give you a good dose of inspiration and motivation for the year ahead. Having a hobby that you enjoy can be a great stress reliever and gives you a much-needed creative output. Not only this, but it’ll give you some ‘me time’ away from work, from the housework and commitments. You may even meet a few positive new people along the way, and you will become more interesting! Don’t put it off because you think you won’t have the time. If you feel like you need a soul revival this spring, find a hobby you love, and make time for it every day.
Laugh a lot
They say, ‘laughter is the best medicine’, and it’s actually been proven. An American study into the effects of humor and laughing on adults in their 60s and 70s found that humor “can have clinical benefits and rehabilitative implications.” But we can all benefit from laughing because it releases endorphins; chemicals in the brain that make us feel happy, as well as providing natural pain and stress relief. Laughing can lift your mood and make you feel refreshed (without undergoing a botox treatment), especially if you are feeling run down or lethargic, it’s a tonic everyone possesses. You’ve just got to find a way to let it all out!
Start every day with a smile
And if laughing is the medicine, smiling is the cure, and it’s contagious too! Start your day with a smile and you’ll feel more positive and motivated throughout the day. Spend time with your friends and family and think about the things you love. Do whatever you can to make you feel happy and your smile will form naturally. Don’t forget, a smile can go a long way. If you smile, you appear more confident, pleasant, and friendly. You will not only feel better, but you are likely to improve the opportunities available to you – people like happiness, it's infectious after all.
Grow something (and keep it alive)
Whether it’s in your garden or on your windowsill, nurture that plant-like your life depends on it! There is so much satisfaction to be had when you finally see it thrive and even more pleased when it really starts to bloom!
Go on a micro-adventure
Pack your bags and head off on an adventure that is totally out of the ordinary for you. There’s no better way to invigorate your mind. You may not think it at the time but a spot of bush camping or climbing that distant peak may be just what you need! But it doesn’t even need to be this extravagant, maybe it’s just picking a random place within your region and set off to explore. You just don’t know what will happen or who you’ll meet along the way.
Try a new shade of lipstick!
As the saying goes: “Lipstick can’t solve all your problems but it’s a pretty good start.” Try a different shade and see what happens. Lipstick brings magic, and adventure you’ll never expect.
I never heard of facial yoga! Must give it a try.
