A few weeks ago, I checked the nearest Christmas shop in our town, and I couldn’t believe how much expensive the Christmas decorations and trinkets are nowadays. Is it because of the pandemic?
Nevertheless, I couldn’t bear spending money on the new Christmas decorations.
So, I did what I am always good at – DIY-ing and upcycling!
Luckily, I have this old tweed jacket in my studio which has been sitting there waiting for the right purpose. I love this jacket and wear it for many occasions (I got it from the local charity shop!), but now it is about time to use it as a material for my DIY Christmas stockings.
I made a stocking pattern out of a cereal box and traced the pattern into my tweed fabric. I also found faux fur scraps from my stash which I had sewn into the Christmas stockings to make it look fancy.
Et voila! My fancy Christmas stockings!
Total costs – Zero money spent / Only my creativity, and time!
You can do this upcycling project using your old t-shirts. Time to unleash your creative side, and minimize textile waste!

How creative and pretty! It's a good idea to upcycle an old jacket and make a Christmas stocking out of it.
ReplyDeleteI still have the rest of the fabric remnants which I will use for other upcycling projects.
DeleteVery nicely done! I cannot see the old item from the finished product.. It looks very classy and neat for a christmas stocking though but beautifully done! That is talent.
ReplyDeleteI consider Christmas decorations to be such a waste of money. Like there’s no need to keep buying. I like this idea and your stockings look absolutely amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI rarely but Christmas decors, except a few pieces from the charity shops. Sayang kasi! And I kept them all.
DeleteYour Christmas stocking now is so posh! it fits perfectly with your personality! Make more of it! What did you do with the other fabrics?
ReplyDeleteI made a few Christmas stockings as well to be gifted to the family, and some Christmas baubles.
DeleteHow I wish I can learn how to sew but I'm so scared of the sewing machine. When I was young, my mom accidentally sewed on her finger and I can't get it out of my head.
ReplyDeleteModern sewing machines have safety features to avoid such accidents.
