Remember the DIY Care Bear Dress that I made months ago?
I still save the rest of the Care Bear print fabric that I used from the previous upcycling project, and I thought of making a jumper co-ord set. Luckily, I got a small roll of sakura-colored fabric that I got from my usual op-shopping gig.
Australia is the second-highest consumer of textiles in the world behind the United States. On average Australians buy 27 kilograms of new clothing each year and throw out about 23 kilograms of clothes.
That is a massive scale and makes me feel so sad, and heartbreaking.
While experimenting with different fabrics is fun and making various fabrics work together, the idea of saving unwanted textile remnants is helping the community to minimize the increase of textile waste.
And that is something that is more fulfilling for me recently, and I take pride in wearing my own creations.
I haven’t bought brand new clothes for a couple of years now since I moved to Australia, and you know what? I never miss it!
Here is my sketch and the textiles that I’ve got from the op-shop.
My cats love being with me especially during my work because they love playing with the fabric cut-outs. I kept all the small cut-outs in a big container, which my cats used as a makeshift bed during the day.

And here is the final look!
Care Bear Jumper co-ord designed and created by me; Car Bear plush toy from Kmart; pink gumboots from Kmart Kid’s section.
This outfit is good for the unpredictable Victorian weather, even during the summer.
