Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 is the latest acoustic beauty and fashion statement.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 review
Nothing is much cooler than spending on something that you love and with multipurpose value.
I’m talking about the latest earbuds now available in the market, the latest Huawei Freebuds Pro 2.

Co-engineered by Devialet, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 is the brand’s latest flagship hearable. While Huawei certainly needs no introduction, the brand is known for very impressive collaborations with European tech and lifestyle brands such as Austrian brand Leica for their smartphone cameras, and now with acoustic giant Devialet - a French audio technology company known for its speakers and amplifiers.

The FreeBuds Pro 2 is the successor of Huawei’s first truly wireless earbuds, the FreeBuds Pro, and they come with some significant upgrades. I had the opportunity to test them out, and here’s my verdict.

They are a fashion statement!

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 review

I’m one of those people who thinks that I will forever be happy just using the old-school earphones that sometimes accidentally strangled me at bedtime, but here I am proving that nothing is forever and it is time for me to upgrade.

After testing and using this Huawei Freebuds Pro for weeks now, I definitely changed my mind about sticking on wireless buds, that provide amazing sound quality, and kickass aesthetic design.

I chose the Silver Blue colorway because it perfectly reminds me of the clear blue sky and the gorgeous view of the Great Ocean Road. Also, it looks posh and extraordinary compared to the usual white and black tones available in the market.

There’s also a small reflective panel on the back of the case that has Huawei and Devialet branded on it. While the panel can act as a little mirror, very handy (especially for us ladies, and I’m pretty sure its aesthetics is on-point). The only issue is that the material is very susceptible to fingerprints.

The buds themselves are also reflective, not unlike this panel. Each earbud has a cool tone to it, with light purple-blue rubber tips, and pale lettering that reads “Huawei” and “L” or “R” corresponding to each side of the ear.

Paired with the silvery shade, the stemmed design makes the buds resemble a classy pair of earrings. It’s a little more resistant to fingerprints, though the material itself feels rather slick.

It is also great to use at night, as its design and colorway are not attentive-grabbing and shiny which is good.

High-quality sound + noise cancellation

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 review

Huawei has designed this year’s FreeBuds Pro to offer a firm but comfortable fit, and each pair comes with three silicone bud tips for better customization. The company says its FreeBuds can automatically tweak the audio to suit a user’s ear canal structure and volume level, so you’ll get more personalized sound without needing to make extra adjustments.

The partnership with Devialet means a range of music-enhancing features are available to buyers (although your overall listening experience will still depend on the quality of the file or media your FreeBuds are connected to). Some of the features offered by Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 include:

Ultra-hearing True Sound Dual Driver: a two-driver sound system, combing an ultra-high frequency micro planar diaphragm and 11mm dynamic driver for sharp bass and precise treble.

Triple Adaptive EQ technology: works in combination with your ear canal for better sound

Graphic EQ and Adaptive EQ: uses Huawei’s AI Life app to provide 10 frequency bands for fine-tuned and consistent sound across all volumes

Hi-Res Wireless Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless certifications: can connect up to 900kbps on compatible devices

For hands-free voice calls or moments when you need to cut out the background sounds, the FreeBuds Pro 2 also offer advanced active noise cancellation, including new Pure Voice technology to lock in on your conversation even in busy environments. Huawei has added a range of modes and extras such as aircraft noise cancellation for in-flight listening, an aware mode to keep you looped into your surroundings, and a new wind-proof design to shut out wind noise.

The FreeBuds Pro 2 also comes with gesture control features that allow users to adjust volume, switch between noise cancellation options, and play, pause and skip music just by pinching or swiping the Buds themselves. You’ll get around four hours of active battery life with active noise cancellation switched on, and a massive 30 hours without noise cancellation switched on. The device can also be reverse charged via compatible Huawei phones or tablets if you’re away from an outlet.

Buy now, and get a free $299 Huawei Sound Joy speaker

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 review

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 are priced at $349 AUD and are now available to buy from Huawei Authorized Experience Stores and from Mobileciti and Auptimal. You can pick up a pair in Silver Blue, Silver Frost, and Ceramic White.

To celebrate the launch, Huawei is throwing in a free gift with purchase for all orders made between now and September 24, 2022. Pick up the FreeBuds Pro 2 from participating retailers, and you’ll receive a free Huawei Sound Joy portable Bluetooth speaker, valued at $229.

Another Huawei device co-engineered with Devialet, the Sound Joy includes a two-way speaker system designed to align the signal and acoustic output pressure for powerful bass and treble. Huawei promises its speaker to maintain audio quality even at the highest volume and can handle treble frequencies of up to 20kHz and bass as low as 50Hz.

The Sound Joy also includes a big 8,800mAh battery with up to 26 hours of playback and 40W super-fast charge compatibility, along with Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity and smart voice assistance. You’ll also get IP67 splash and water resistance, a light-up multi-color design, and a one-touch sound transfer from your phone to the speaker itself.

Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 review

In addition to a free Sound Joy speaker, FreeBuds Pro 2 buyers will also receive one year of Huawei Loss Care Cover from Australian Huawei Authorized Experience Stores. This means you’ll be able to buy a single replacement earbud at a heavily discounted price if one of your buds is lost or damaged within 12 months of purchase.

The Verdict

I can attest that the Huawei Freebuds pro 2 changed my perspective about wireless earbuds. I am impressed with its noise canceling (or ANC) feature, not to mention its long-lasting battery life. The pair perfectly fits my ear, and it is posh looking to wear as they resemble a pair of earrings.

The buds come with an IP54 rating for splash, water, and dust resistance, though it should be noted that the rating is given to the buds themselves, not the case.

The only thing that bothers me is when I accidentally lost the pair (coz sometimes I’m a clumsy girl!), anyway I should get Huawei Loss Care to solve this problem.

The Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2 is comparable to other new releases in the market, such as the Galaxy Buds2 Pro. With that in mind, I do think Huawei’s latest flagship earbuds are worth your consideration if you’re in the market for truly wireless earbuds.

Huawei did an impressive job with the Freebuds Pro 2 - unrivaled sound, sleek design, and solid battery life combined with excellent noise canceling.

  4. I've never been much of a fan of ear buds in general as they always hurt my ears. These one look like they are shaped a bit different, though, and might work for me! I've never heard of the brand before, though, so I'll have to see if they're available here.
