As much as I can, I dislike throwing away my old clothes, especially those that I have outgrown a bit. I’ve collected stylish pieces, and no one in my extended family would be keen to dress the way I did, so instead of giving them away to the op shop, I stay diligent to keep on reinventing and using my old clothes to recreate a new piece for my wardrobe.
Just like this recent upcycling project, I did with my old Trench dress. I recalled that I bought this piece from Salvos Elsternwick back in 2020. It was very lovely and comfortable to wear underneath with a cute dress, easy to style with my current piece. Yet it comes to the point in my life that I started gaining a few pounds (not that I regret it - on the contrary, I love it!), hence, some of my clothes including this trench dress are forced to have a vacation.
This trench dress doesn’t have a specific label on it, however, it is Made in Korea using a good quality textile. I couldn’t give this up easily, so I decided to experiment a little bit and have fun with whatever result it will be.
Apparently, it turns out to be just fine.
I removed both sleeves (didn’t throw them away), and cut the dress in half, turning it into a coords. Here’s how I styled it!
I kept the high slit to achieve a sassy look for this skirt. The Doc Marten boots look fabulous as well with this upcycled outfit.
For the bag, I upcycled this empty chocolate tin can from Lindt. It is too cute and still functional. This tin can is special coz I bought it from the Lindt Chocolate shop in Sydney during my first visit to the city. I added some gold chunky chains and added a crochet bag handle with rhinestone sewn on it.
Isn’t this bag so eccentric?
What do you do with your old clothes whenever it doesn’t fit you anymore?
What do you think of this dress? I have several pieces made recently, and I am excited to share with you their stories.
Cheers to more sustainable upcycle fashion!
I usually just throw clothes that don't fit me anymore but wow, you are so creative with this.
ReplyDeleteI used to do the same many years ago, and when I found out the impact of textile waste in the community, I started making my effort to minimize textile waste in our household. And also keeps me occupied as well!
DeleteI normally give those clothes that doesn’t fit me anymore to my younger sister. Those are all really lovely outfits!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I used to do that but then she's now bigger than me!
DeleteNnniiiccceeeeee....I love what you have done with the trench dress. The final product didn't turn out so different from the original product!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I actually found some extra textile in similar color, and I thought of augmenting this design.
DeleteWhat a cool way to upcycle clothing items that no longer fit. It looks amazing on you!
ReplyDeleteThank you, dear!
DeleteI love how it turned out, upcycling your old clothes is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing transformation! I would have never thought to split the dress in half like that.
ReplyDeleteThat's very creative. It's good that you were able to transform something that didn't fit into something you could use.
ReplyDeleteYes, and that is one of my many ways how to prolong the life of my clothes.
DeleteThat is a fun idea for a trench coat. It looks great upcycled like this!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is cool and it turned out better. You have a great talent doing something like this. You look gorgeous!
