Dive into the rich art and cultural ambience across the city! The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) promotes “Arts in Hong Kong” in full force to drive Hong Kong as a star of the art and cultural scene through year-round promotions and supporting various international art events to be held in Hong Kong, together with novel experiences of arts and cultural fun along the coast of Victoria Harbour. Meanwhile, the HKTB also presents time-limited tourism products jointly with the travel trade to attract visitors to embark on an art and cultural journey in Hong Kong.

Mr Dane Cheng, HKTB Executive Director, said, “World-class arts and cultural events are taking place in Hong Kong one after another. Through our year-round promotional platform ‘Arts in Hong Kong’, the Tourism Board actively promotes the series of art and cultural happenings in town riding on the momentum of ‘Art March’. Together with our diverse promotions on different channels, we strive to showcase Hong Kong’s unique art appeal and reinforce the city’s role as the East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange. Focusing on the trend that in-depth experiences are highly sought after by visitors, the HKTB will encourage the travel trade to jointly bring in art and cultural tourism products with unique characters, and step up promotional efforts across various platforms to bring in visitors to Hong Kong.”

Venue: Central Harbourfront

Gathering rising stars and elites in the art scene, Art Central is returning to the Central Harbourfront between 28 and 31 March, showcasing boundary-pushing contemporary art from the region’s most forward-thinking galleries. HKTB also collaborates with Art Central and invites six local artists to present a series of art pieces drawing inspiration from Hong Kong’s diverse culture and agility to showcase the city’s unique appeal to art aficionados worldwide.

HKTB will also present “Arts in Hong Kong Newsstand”, an installation that highlights local aesthetics and the common ground where people connect and exchange ideas. Inspired by old-fashioned newspaper stalls, the booth showcases the three-dimensional paper-cutting artworks of Chen Fenwan, a post-90s paper-cutting artist in the Greater Bay Area. The artworks are full of local flavours and colours, including colorful Hong Kong signs, mosaic tiles, egg tarts, etc., which perfectly represent the vibrant energy of Hong Kong. Visitors can also collect free postcards with the works of the six local artists at the booth.

Art Basel Hong Kong

Venue: Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

A cornerstone of art season, Art Basel Hong Kong is taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 28 to 30 March. The prestigious art fair will return with masterpieces from more than 240 world-class galleries and 16 large-scale installations.

This year, the HKTB will continue to help promote the exhibition and join hands with the fair to set up a special "Cha Chaan Teng" at the venue, offering local delicacies and beverages, such as pineapple buns and Hong Kong-style milk tea, etc. This integrates local culture into contemporary art exhibitions, highlighting Hong Kong's East-meets-West cultural convergence.

“A Path to Glory – Jin Yong’s Centennial Memorial”

Venue: Edinburg Place, Central

To mark the centenary of the birth of Jin Yong (Dr Louis Cha), a literary giant in Chinese literature, the exhibition “The World of Wuxia” will be staged from 15 March to 2 July, and will showcase 10 sculptures of classic Jin Yong characters, including Xiaolongnu, Yang Guo, Abbess Miejue, Zhou Botong, etc., created by sculptor Ren Zhe. The exhibition will feature a Mongolian yurt inspired by The Eagle Shooting Heroes to offer visitors an immersive experience with augmented reality technology in the exhibition.

The HKTB will also launch the “Jinyong Harbour Tour Guide”, which encourages visitors and the public to visit the classic martial arts warriors along the harbour and embark on an interactive tour to visit the "Wuxia".

Art@Harbour 2024: teamLab “Continuous”

Venue: Tamar Park and Central and Western District Promenade (Central Section)

Jointly presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Japanese teamLab, the light installation “teamLab: Continuous” is of great innovation. The exhibition will feature hundreds of illuminated, colourful ovoids between 25 March and 2 June along the Harbour. The installations will
change into different colours and sound effects as they interact with visitors to bring along a dreamy, immersive experience.

Art@Harbour 2024: Voyage with Van Gogh

Venue: Piazza, Hong Kong Cultural Centre

Inspired by Van Gogh’s paintings and the iconic Hong Kong Victoria Harbour, the illuminated large-scale LED installation Cycles from Spain will take its viewers on a 360-degree sensorial experience from 28 March to 31 May in front of the clock tower in Tsim Sha Tsui, bringing viewers a feast for the sight into a fantastic world that blends arts and the city.

WestK FunFest: “Atelier Sisu –Ephemeral”

Giant, vibrant inflatable “bubble-tecture”, designed by an Australia-based studio is making its debut reveal in Hong Kong in the West Kowloon Cultural District from 22 March to 7 April, bringing a unique immersive art experience with the visual effect of the colourful giant soap bubbles to the audience.

From 24 to 31 March, the ‘Arts in Hong Kong Harbour Tour’ will offer visitors a unique experience of diverse art along Victoria Harbour. Take a ride on an authentic Chinese junk boat DukLing, accompanied by an onboard tour guide who will introduce you to Hong Kong’s wonderful art events and major art venues on both sides of the harbour. The tour provides visitors with a unique opportunity to appreciate Hong Kong’s rich art scene from the sea while witnessing the mesmerising changes of Victoria Harbour from day to night.


Promotions of City-wide art and cultural happenings 

Apart from the above international arts events on both sides of Victoria Harbour, the HKTB also supports other international arts and cultural programmes in town and promotes these events on the HKTB's website and social media platforms. Not-to-be-missed events include ComplexCon, the first-ever edition of the pop-culture event to be held outside its home country, the US, bringing together a wide range of events in music, fashion, sports, trends, art and food; another highlight is the French May Arts Fest, which will present about 100 arts and cultural programmes, allowing visitors to savour French culture through a variety of experiences. In addition, the Affordable Art Fair will return in May, offering visitors a wide range of popular and accessible artworks.

The HKTB will continue to support various international events to be held in Hong Kong and will leverage different events and make good use of its global network for publicity to strengthen Hong Kong’s global exposure and enhance the city’s appeal as a travel destination.
