If you’ve been watching the Harry Potter series during your growing-up years, then you’ll know the Hogwarts Express, and I admit there are times I would fantasize about catching that train IRL just to fulfill that childhood experience.
And unexpectedly, I don’t need to travel that far to Edinburgh just to have a glimpse of experience being in one of the most iconic heritage trains that was created in many decades.
Steamrail Victoria is a non-profit organization that has been restoring and operating heritage trains for over 50 years. In their extensive fleet, you’ll find a huge range of steam, diesel, and electric locomotives, as well as a vast range of historic carriages that are ready to transport you back through time. They regularly run tours to destinations around Victoria, including the one steam train that I experienced last year here in Gippsland.
I feel like a little kid again! The only regret I had was not to dress up as one of the Hogwarts students and bring my wand. I’ll definitely do that next time.
Steam trains are also popular with many train spotters and train enthusiasts of all ages especially with the younger fan base. The strong support of the community helps to keep restoring many trains and continue their operation that everyone can enjoy.
