This is the incredible jewellery made from recycled elephant poop.

Eco-tourism attraction Elephant Poopoopaper Park in Chiang Mai, Thailand, came up with an innovative way to make the most out of their elephants.

Their motto is waste not, want not, as they scoop up the massive elephants' poop and turn the fibres into paper-based products - including funky necklaces and earrings.

The walking tour through the lush gardens brings visitors to eight different pavilions, each explaining a different stage of the fascinating process - from poo collection, to rinsing, to final product assembly.

Visitors are encouraged to pull up a stool, roll up their sleeves and join in with the talented artisans.

As well as the Elephant Poopoopaper Park, the shop is also known as The Poo-tique.

  1. This one is definitely weird... I am not sure how enthusiastic I'd be of buying some bracelet made in this way. But I definitely know a few people I'd enjoy giving this as a present!

    1. Hello Indrani, yeah we must promote this and its good in nature. Saves a lot of energy, and since they eat grass it means its not that dirty.

  3. That is a very strange way of reusing elephant poo. My question is if the money gathered from the selling of these items are going anywhere towards protecting the elephants.

  5. This is strange, I've never heard of that before. However,I think it's a really good way to gather money (if the money gathered is used for elephants). I like the idea! I'd definitely buy one as I love elephants! I don't know if I'd wear it often though... But love the idea!

  11. The famous French saying "nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed" definitely makes sense here. I think poopoopaper is interesting. Do the notepad is entirely made of poopoopaper? If so, it would be a nice thing to expand the idea and print books out of poopoopaper instead of trees!

    1. Yes notepads are made of dung too. Ah everything is recycled. A great way to save our trees!

  12. Okay, I admit they all look colorful and the names, like poopaper and poo gems are super cute, but this is still elephant poo... Not sure I'd gift it to anyone, but I'd probably get some for myself. Too weird not to have :D

    1. LOL yeah I understand the OC part.. but you can't buy and make these as natural fertilizers. You just dug it deep in your garden to make your soil more healthy.

  21. In India we are using the same concept since years even in my childhood I used to do my Maths practice on recycled pages. Its'a good environmental friendly initiative, here on special occasion we use beautiful envelopes of vibrant colors with sprinkled flower petals on all over it.

    1. Hello Priyanka,

I agree we also do that in school (many years ago).
I'm not sure if this technique is still teaches in school. It is ideal that we should teach kids how to recycle.
