How to Jazz Up your Old Shoes and Be an Artsy Thrifty Diva

Because spending for new one is over-rated.

Have you ever wonder what will you do to your old stuffs but throwing it away is not your first option?

Yeah, talking about being emotional and sentimental to things we’ve been keeping for awhile :D

But that’s okay…

Being sentimental is NORMAL! It means you value these things, and letting it go is sometimes even tough (yeah I know right).

So I’m teaching you how you can keep your things, and giving it a new life!

One way of making things look-new is to decoupage it.

With the help of your old magazines, a pair of scissors, and paste / glue – you can dress-up anything that you like. You can decoupage your bag, your old accessories boxes, your dull wooden cabinet, and even your shoes! Yeah just like mine :D

I’ve been using and keeping these shoes for (I guess 5 years) and recently I noticed that is it really worn out. That top ribbon design is detached and just fixing it isn’t enough for me. I mean, these pairs have been servicing me for years, and I believe it is time to make some chances.

Just like you, it is kind of tough for me to just these go coz, it was a gift for me from someone very special. Though the shoes are not expensive, my relationship with my shoes and the person who gave these can’t be bought by any amount.

Anyway, apart from the detached ribbon, soles are still okay and in good form. So I decided to unleash my crafting skills and give it a new look.

Okay so here are the materials I’ve used:

* my pairs of old shoes (yeah I know it’s reaaalllllyy worn out)

* paint brush

* pages of old magazines (Ohh hello there Olivia and Blake!)

* Mod Podge

* and of course a pair of scissors for cutting magazine pages.

Okay let’s get started!

After cleaning these shoes and removed those ribbons, I started applying the Mod Podge on its surface. You can use Elmer’s glue as substitute to Mod Podge.

Cut those papers in any shapes and sizes, there is no limit, girls :D

Now time to paste these cut-out papers!

My goal is to cover-up the whole surface. To make shoes kind of interesting, I opt these colored magazine pages in shades of pink (well it was too late I realized it turned-out to be soo girly!)

You can decide on any themes that you like. There is NO LIMIT, only your imagination.

The reality of crafting is, you have to be messy in order to create something WOW!

I don’t know how some of you doing it without making a mess of your work area, hahaha

After pasting these colored magazine pages on the whole surface, I’ve brushed some Mod Podge on whole top of it. This is to secure the papers together, and when it dries it gives a lustrous shine :D

Let it dry for an hour, then reapply then next coat… I did this for 4 times to make sure it holds.

See I’m a mess!

Do the same procedures using the other shoe :D

When both shoes are all dry and set, I’ve attached the ribbon on its original place using E6000 glue.

As you’ve noticed, both inner soles are damaged – so I took some scraps of pink fabric (leftovers from my previous DIY project) then I’d traced the inside. After tracing, I cut it and pasted it, again using E6000 coz it hold more strong with fabrics.

… And Voila!

I couldn’t contain my excitement!

OMG, my crafting skills are killing it, I want to make MORE!
