Taking Hotel Toiletries is a Good Thing and You Should!

Are you that kind of hotel guests who takes home those extra hotel bathroom toiletries you had from your room?

Don’t feel guilty because you are not alone.

As a frequent hotel guest, I am also a habit of taking home those extra / used toiletries I have in my room.

Let’s admit it – those gorgeous bottles, and well packaged soaps are truly hard to resist. Sometimes the hotel even have a free vanity pouch along with it, same as what some airlines gave to their first class flyers.

If you feel shy on taking them home with you, please don’t be. Actually it would be deemed a huge favor from the hotel if you will take them home with you (and some hotels are very much willing to give you some extra!).

Here are the valid reasons why you should take home those extra / used hotel toiletries, according to my keen observation and personal experiences;

• Those unused / half-used toiletries will eventually be thrown into the hotel’s waste bins after you check-out, then will disposed it to the land-fills. By taking them home, you are helping the hotel to minimize the cost of its disposal.

• Those small plastic containers are hard to recycle. Take them home with you and use them when you travel by refilling its contents.

• Many hotels likes their guests to take home those toiletries as means of promoting their hotel services. When your family member loves the toiletries, it is a good way to encourage them to stay at that hotel origin.

• Hotel toiletries also a good way to remind their guests the wonderful experience they had during their stay – this is also a great way to remind their guests to come back for their next vacation.

Bathroom toiletries at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila

During the recent Hotel Show in Manila, I got a chance to check the latest on hotel’s bathroom toiletries. Many companies are designing these products based on the hotel’s taste to please their valued guests.

Which is true.

Whenever I had my hotel staycation, I am a keen observer on what they have laid inside my bathroom. I am impressed to see a good quality of bathroom toiletries, which also gives me an impression that they value their guests, and they understand that pampering in the bathroom is very important.

And I couldn’t help not resisting my eco-minded rationale instinct. Yes, I always bring them home and sometimes ask for extra of bath soaps especially when they are so good!

I always felt that satisfaction whenever I have them in my luggage before I check-out, thinking that I have something to enjoy when I arrived home. It is my great way to indulge that feeling, and saving them for my next trip to places that I wouldn’t expect to have a decent bathroom toiletries.

It is also a great homecoming gifts to your extended family back home after your glorious trip. My Aunties loves receiving these extra pouches each time I visited her after my vacations. She even bragged it to her friends as part of her growing “collection” (she doesn’t like to travel because of frequent dizziness).

Also other things that you can take home from your hotel room are those bedroom slippers, because they cannot be used again once a guest has been wearing them, and toothbrush (some hotels even add a vanity sewing kit!).

But never ever take home those towels!

Remember – only take those extra bathroom toiletries and others that are inside your room.

Taking something from the housekeeper’s trolley is already stealing, and a huge NO NO

Do you also collect hotel bathroom toiletries?

  2. I only take them if they are good quality but sometimes I stay at very nice places and I'm disappointed in the product so in that case, I would leave it. I didn't realize they would just throw it away. Hotels should donate them to local shelters if their guests don't keep them.
