Are you that kind of hotel guests who takes home those extra hotel bathroom toiletries you had from your room?
Don’t feel guilty because you are not alone.
As a frequent hotel guest, I am also a habit of taking home those extra / used toiletries I have in my room.
Let’s admit it – those gorgeous bottles, and well packaged soaps are truly hard to resist. Sometimes the hotel even have a free vanity pouch along with it, same as what some airlines gave to their first class flyers.
If you feel shy on taking them home with you, please don’t be. Actually it would be deemed a huge favor from the hotel if you will take them home with you (and some hotels are very much willing to give you some extra!).
Here are the valid reasons why you should take home those extra / used hotel toiletries, according to my keen observation and personal experiences;
Bathroom toiletries at Marco Polo Ortigas Manila
During the recent Hotel Show in Manila, I got a chance to check the latest on hotel’s bathroom toiletries. Many companies are designing these products based on the hotel’s taste to please their valued guests.
Which is true.
And I couldn’t help not resisting my eco-minded rationale instinct. Yes, I always bring them home and sometimes ask for extra of bath soaps especially when they are so good!
It is also a great homecoming gifts to your extended family back home after your glorious trip. My Aunties loves receiving these extra pouches each time I visited her after my vacations. She even bragged it to her friends as part of her growing “collection” (she doesn’t like to travel because of frequent dizziness).
Also other things that you can take home from your hotel room are those bedroom slippers, because they cannot be used again once a guest has been wearing them, and toothbrush (some hotels even add a vanity sewing kit!).
Remember – only take those extra bathroom toiletries and others that are inside your room.
Taking something from the housekeeper’s trolley is already stealing, and a huge NO NO
Do you also collect hotel bathroom toiletries?
xoxo Blair
I always try to remember to do this but most of the time I forget lol
ReplyDeleteHahaha same here, well specially when the toiletries are nothings special.
DeleteI only take them if they are good quality but sometimes I stay at very nice places and I'm disappointed in the product so in that case, I would leave it. I didn't realize they would just throw it away. Hotels should donate them to local shelters if their guests don't keep them.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, but not all hotels do donate them.
DeleteHahaha I'm guilty of this. Thank God I'm not alone.
ReplyDeleteHahaha true! Especially when I stayed at luxury hotels, I have high expectations on what their bathroom toiletries have.
DeleteDuring my childhood days, we are always looking forward to those toiletries from our grandparents from the US. They smell very good is a nice to use. We often use them when we go out of town, very useful.
ReplyDeleteHahaha yes! Even here at home, I learned to save them all. Whenever I have guests, I let them use some of my hotel toiletries especially those bar soaps.
DeleteHahaha, love this post! Although despite my name, surprisingly we don't take much if anything from hotel rooms! I dunno, just never got into it.
ReplyDeleteGeez you are missing the frugal factor!
DeleteMy dad used to travel a lot for work and he and my mom always had a drawer of travel items that I had so much fun looking through!
ReplyDeleteohh I can relate! When I was a kid, I often received some cute hotel soaps and wishing that I could visit these place someday. A great motivation.
DeleteI agree, and I always do! I mean, I figure I pay for them in the hotel cost, so heck ya, I'll stock up.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Amber!
DeleteOh my gosh! I would go home with all of those toiletries! Actually, I do except for the robes, towels and flip flop sandals. Can't wait for my next staycation.
ReplyDeleteThose robes, and towels are no no.. If the bedroom slippers are so good, I also take them home!
DeleteYes I always take toiletries from hotel. they are actually really good and I save them for when I travel. These compact sizes are great to bring for short trips
ReplyDeleteVery savvy idea!
DeleteLove it! I always take home my hotel toiletries. A lot of people don't realize that they're made for that. I mean, otherwise, they'll just get thrown out anyway. No one wants to use pre-used tubes of anything.
ReplyDeleteYes they do throw it away even those that are unopened.
DeleteI actually collect hotel toiletries too. It's nice. I use it as well. What's your favorite so far?
ReplyDeleteAnd it looks great inside our travel luggage when we go our out-of-town short trips! I love the Carolina Herrera luxury toiletries when I stayed at Peninsula.
DeleteI definitely take the lotion and put one in every purse!
ReplyDeleteThat's nice! Especially when those small bottles are reusable. I love using them and refill with my own lotion.
DeleteI always take the extras from my room. They are great to use on my next trip or at the gym.
ReplyDeleteSaves us a lot and gives smile on our faces remembering that vacation.
DeleteWith such great products I wouldn't really feel guilty after taking them home. Unfortunately, hotels aren't that generous in my country most of the times. :)
ReplyDeleteOhh really?
DeleteMost hotels here in Asia are very generous! But in Thailand, many hotels are now using switching to refillable containers for their bathroom toiletries.
I take home all of the extra hotel soaps and such. Nothing that would be considered stealing but, I like to stalk up and it's included in my cost of the stay so, why not?!
ReplyDeleteI've always heard that they throw away the ones we leave behind -- used or not. That's why I always take the ones in our room.
ReplyDeleteThat's right, and its some few souvenirs that we love to put in our bathroom.
Deleteohh we just love being savvy!
ReplyDeleteI'm guilty of taking toiletries from the hotel! Hahaha! Besides the fact that we paid for it, I use those toiletries whenever I go to resorts which doesn't have any toiletries.
ReplyDeleteThat's true! Some of the resorts outside the city (especially those budget-friendly resorts) doesn't have decent toiletries, and I also bring them with me during those trips.
DeleteI, too, always take home bathroom toiletries as souvenirs because why not, right? 😍
ReplyDeleteThat is true! Usually I collect those cute soaps.
Deletethanks for sharing this as I do collect my hotel room toiletries from my stay too. It's a way to care for our planet. cheers, siennylovesdrawing
ReplyDeleteSame here! And it gives a good reminder of our stay in these places.
DeleteMany people does this all the time. I honestly think they have good products. Why not take advantage of what you paid for right?
ReplyDeleteThat is right! Some hotels are happy to provide you extra :D
DeleteSometimes I take them home, and sometimes I don't. It really depends on the class of the hotel. More expensive toiletries come with me. I don't usually use the shampoos and conditioners (not enough for my hair), but they are nice to put in my guest room.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have collection of toiletries from many luxury hotels I've been. And placed it in my guest room for guests usage.
DeleteHehe....wow, I had never thought about this, in this way, Blair. But it all makes sense...most especially, the part of the land-fills.
ReplyDeleteI love being savvy!
DeleteI remember my dad took all his hotel toiletries from his baggage. Iwas amazed some them were old and expired. Haha
ReplyDeleteyeah sometimes we forgot we have them. My trick is just take those bar soaps coz it lasts longer than liquid soaps.
DeleteI totally agree and its such a waste to leave them to be thrown away
ReplyDeleteThat is so true! I also learned that bringing them home and sharing to your friends will help the hotel for their marketing campaign :D
DeleteI actually never take toiletries from hotel room but it sounds good.
ReplyDeleteohh you missing the fun!
DeleteI don't usually take them. But I sure do get my share of them while I am there!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy what you've paid for!
DeleteI do that everytime! I actually thought I am the only one doing it lol.
ReplyDeleteYou are not alone, and hey I am not feel shame to admit it :D
DeleteTo be very honest Yes I do collect hotel bathroom toiletries especially soaps I love to collect different different soaps. And I am totally agree with you on throwing of used toiletries by hotel cleaning staff.
ReplyDeleteYeah I feel guilty leaving those half-used soaps.
DeleteThat's really a nice tip which I never thought before. It really makes sense, why not take them too with us. :)
ReplyDeleteYes and you are helping the hotel (indirectly) and it helps you to save on buying soaps!
DeleteGood article. I always like seeing what brands hotels choose to work with for their hotel toiletries. I find it really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI always do this and my husband scolds me :D I will show this post to him :D
ReplyDeletehahaha now you he shouldn't scold you, coz you are helping to save.
DeleteIve never though about doing this but I might have to now that you shed light on it!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Enriqueta!
DeleteMy husband always takes them home. I've been shy about it, but what you say makes a lot of sense.
ReplyDeleteYeah it was good to bring them home especially those little soaps.
DeleteThese all are actually good points. These half used things only go to waste. So I too bring them with me. The miniature sizes are easy for traveling and they look good too. Also we have paid for them.
ReplyDeleteExactly! For me, it always gives me a reminder of how good the memories I had!
DeleteI most definitely do take home the samples and smaller bottles of things that they leave out. There is no reason not to as they are going to have to remove them from the room when you leave anyway.
ReplyDeleteI like collecting from those who have good toiletries!
DeleteI almost always take the lotion as they make amazing to go lotions . Shampoo and conditioner - not so much
ReplyDeleteSometimes there are hotels that have good lotion for keeps.
DeleteI like those hotel samples and they are easy travel size versions of the real deal. I have a stash at home.
ReplyDeleteThat's cool! And sometimes I do sent it as gives to my long relatives :D
DeleteIf its a sealed bottle and we have opened it, then yes
ReplyDeleteSaving is cool!
DeleteI never thought about taking the toiletries can be a way of promoting the hotel. But it really does make a lot of sense. When other people see you use them and like them you do show you enjoyed your stay there.
ReplyDeleteExactly! And if you only realize the actual costs of those sets, OMG they are actually expensive!
DeleteI take them when only it is good product or product which I like most. Yes you are right half used toiletry will goes to dust bin.
ReplyDeleteI am not feel ashamed brining them home :D
Deletehaha thank you for making me feel better about taking home some of the remaining shampoo and conditioner and lotion from the last hotel we went to. i feel bad that I didn't take all of them, though. Sayang! Gusto naman pala nila iuwi natin, haha!
ReplyDeletehahaha yeah its their way of promotion din naman.
DeleteI always take the toiletries too! I didn’t realize though that they likely just throw them out after so I’m glad I do!! Some are just too cute to pass up :)
ReplyDeleteYes even those unused soaps, they tend to throw them away to avoid contamination. So better to bring them home :D
DeleteI always take the hotel toiletries! They are great for travel supplies and gift baskets sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome and savvy ideas!
Deletevery nice tips that you shared. It does make sense to some degree. which does help you save on buying soap. great article.
ReplyDeleteYes and we love saving :D
DeleteI don't mind taking the toiletries when the quality is good. However, I rarely come across anything as lovely as those in your photos . . . clearly, I need to find better hotels. :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, luxury hotels always have good soaps.
DeleteThis post made me smile! Reminded me of when I was a kid!
ReplyDeleteSee! I'm glad it brings back memories.
DeleteThis is a great point, particularly that so many of the little toiletries will be thrown out. It is more sustainable to take them along and use them up. Some are really nice too! (Although the shampoo is always so weak).
ReplyDeleteYeah, better to save those bar soap, and if you bring shampoo make sure to use them asap.
DeleteSomehow I don't do this thinking it's a bad habit. I did not know that, once we check out, it will be thrown. Only once I picked up little things because my next destination had no facility and there were no stores around. Next time onwards , I will collect it :)
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing wrong of collecting them especially when they came inside your room. :D
DeleteI only take home the ones from brands I love - and I use them wheneer I travel to places which don't have usual toiletries. Most of the hotels now use eco-friendly materials and local brands (which is good). :)
ReplyDeleteBangkok hotels does use refillable containers than these samplers.
DeleteI feel the same way! If it isn't being used then it is going to get thrown away anyway! I love the variety you took pics of :)
ReplyDeleteXOXO

Thanks dear! These photos are from the recent hotel shows and I visited the supplies of hotel toiletries.
Deletei am so surprised that the toiletries are looking like that. nothing like the last time i stayed in a hotel where the toiletries were packets.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it depends on the hotels budget how much they could spend for their toiletries.
DeleteI am! Indeed, I am. I have paid for it, right? I do take them home not as souvenirs but because I have paid for them. LOL. I used to not bother about taking them back home because I always have my own preferred brand but it also does not hurt to take them back home, right?
ReplyDeleteOhhh totoo Pala sinabi ng kaibigan Ko na pwede pala Dalhin yan and Thanks for sharing
