How to make your coffee go further at home

How to make your coffee go further at home

Now is the perfect time to think about how you can make the most out of household items, like using empty toilet rolls for craft with the kids, creating your own compost out of kitchen waste and making your coffee grounds go further at home, thanks to JURA Australia.

George Liakatos, JURA Australia’s Managing Director says, “I think we’re all consuming our fair share of coffee at home at the moment! Now that many of us have more time on our hands, it’s not just about getting quick caffeine hit, but finding ways to reuse our coffee grounds and get creative with coffee recipes.”

JURA Australia has compiled their top five ways to get the most out of your at-home coffee machine:

Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie

1. Peanut Butter Banana Smoothie:
Simply place 3 frozen bananas, 4 tbsp peanut butter, 1 to ½ cup of oat milk (depending on thickness desired), 80ml cooled espresso, 1 tbsp maple syrup and 1 tsp chia seeds in a blender and start the day with a coffee breakfast on the go!

2. Espresso Porridge:
Combine 1 ½ cups of rolled oats, 3 cups of milk of your choice, 1/3 cup espresso, 1 tbsp chia seeds, and 1 pinch of salt in a large saucepan and stir well. Bring to the boil, then reduce to simmer and cook for 5 minutes until oats are thick and creamy. Stir in vanilla essence and remove from heat and serve with your favorite toppings such as banana, blueberries, coconut flakes, peanut butter, and extra chia seeds.

3. DIY Coffee Body Scrub:
Mix ½ cup of freshly ground coffee beans with ½ cup of brown sugar, add ½ cup of organic coconut oil and mix until well combined. Use immediately all over the body and rinse off thoroughly before moisturizing.

4. Coffee infused compost:
Coffee grounds are known to be high in potassium and nitrogen and their high carbon content helps to feed the soil, it can also be used as a natural fertilizer. They have also been reported to help ward off nasty bugs, however they are too acidic to be used on their own so always mix them with other organic matter like manure, garden waste, and kitchen scraps before adding to your garden.

5. Odor neutralizer:
Just like coffee beans are readily available at the fragrance counters of most department stores, coffee beans can also neutralize scents in the home. Simply place a cup of unused coffee grounds in the fridge and then wait for them to absorb the odor!

  1. I love this idea. I’m just a powdered coffee drinker, but we have a lot of ground coffee on stock. Should definitely try a few of these to also bring a little excitement into my life. Haha
