One of the reason why I like visiting SM Aura Premier is because of its (almost) monthly free exhibition of various kind of arts and events, all promoting the unique cultures and arts of the Philippines.
Last weekend, I didn’t expect to see this exhibition of United Women Artists Association of the Philippines after my short trip from Okada Manila.
The ground floor of the mall have showcased these gorgeous and breath-taking paintings and sculptures, using various mediums and media.
The United Women Artists Association of the Philippines (UWAAP) was founded and officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on the 11th of January, 2014.
Menchu VtB Arandialla, Founder and President of the association which above all aims to support the Filipina artists, called for membership which generated an enthusiast response from more than 500 female artists all over the Philippines.
Within a few months of its inception, UWAAP implementing its vision and mission, launched its finest group exhibit entitled “DiskArte”, which showcased the various talents of its officers, founding and active members. The women artists who participated are mostly professionals in various fields (i.e doctors, lawyers, educators, accountants, managers, etc.) some come from international and local civil service, or entrepreneurs who have vowed to continue or revive their love for arts despite the complexities in their life and work schedules.
These women artists converge on a regular basis and form comradeship among colleagues, mainly welcoming the introduction of fresh talents who are either just starting to discover their ability in the arts or have been in the industry yet have not harnessed enough courage to display publicly their artistic creations and ideas. This group of artists are strong-minded, yet eager to learn new experiences, whether young or mature at heart.
UWAAP can be describes as a society of female artists who exudes class, high self-esteem, strength and dignity. As Filipinas, it is inbred in their hearts strong traits of femininity, trustworthiness, self-respect and loyalty. These women are empowering other women artists, from all walks of life, in exploring the world of arts with fervor, compassion, and integrity while ensuring each her own inner happiness through friendship and camaraderie. As the saying goes, one for all, all for one.
My personal favorites are those ballerina paintings. I adore the way the artist expressed her ideas, and the choices of media that she uses, like that ballerina with a lace fabric skirt. They are all gorgeous and alive!
I do hope that many Filipina women will engage into art, or least learn to appreciate art as a form of communication and stronger bond.
xoxo, Blair
How wonderful that you can see all of this art for free when you go out to shop! Our library puts up the works of local artists, and I know that everyone appreciates the opportunity to see some beautiful works without having to go to a gallery or museum.
ReplyDeleteThat's right! Many people even queue for museums, and here in the Philippines, we have many pop-up galleries even in the malls.
