Who doesn’t like to have a flawless healthy skin?

I guess every one of you does. Including myself of course.

Weeks ago during my routine grocery shopping at Rustan’s MarketPlace, I found these new OLAY Skin Whitening Bar in three awesome variants – with Vitamin C, Rose & Milk, and Papaya. So just like a curious cat, I grab them and tossed it in my grocery basket – I thought I would try and test these whitening soaps and share to you my experiences. Anyway, what harm would it give me?

{So this post is not an advertorial post, unlike the numerous post/reviews of the OLAY Skin Whitening BAR reviews that you’ll read from other bloggers, because definitely theirs are sponsored - even they habitually doesn’t disclosed it in their post. I’m not connected to OLAY PR team, so this review is based on my experience as a paying customer}.

Anyway, how bad it could be sharing you some information about these new soaps? I guess some of you haven’t tried it yet, or maybe having hesitation to buy it.

****

I’ve been an OLAY product user for a very long time, and I haven’t experience negative vibes about it.

You can see my other reviews here, here and here.

So when I found out that OLAY have released their new bath soaps (yes I stalked them on IG, lol) I actually haunt for it. Gladly they are available!

So let’s talk these three whitening bar soap, shall we?!

****

Olay Skin Whitening Bar with Papaya

Papaya has been known for its amazing benefits, not only for own skin – also to our whole body system.

Papaya – provides dietary fiber, plus vitamins and minerals.

Papaya is the best bet when it comes to skin care. It is a good source for Vitamin A and papain. Vitamin A acts as an anti-oxidant, while the papain breaks down inactive proteins and removes dead skin cells, exfoliating your skin in the most gentle and natural way, and effective skin whitening. The best feature of the fruit is its low sodium quality thus, water retention is also little. The result is an overall hydrated skin. With papaya, it also works as a great skin-firming and anti-aging agent, and helps in removing blemishes, dark spots and provides an even tone to your skin.

So it is also good that Olay add-up Papaya to their roster of whitening agents. For some whom LOOOVVVEEESSSSS Papaya this soap is for you!

But there are some who are allergic to papaya, causing you itchiness and dryness. If allergy occurs, better stop using it.

Although this variant doesn’t lighten my skin, I can’t deny the fact that it helps to exfoliate my skin, and giving me a smooth and even tone complexion. Nothing to complain about it – anyway I don’t mind if the whitening promise doesn’t work on me. But this might work on you!

I use it to my whole body and face like my other bath soap, and makes me feel so refreshingly good!

Olay Skin Whitening Bar with Vitamin C

What Vitamin C means to our skin?

You might already know some of its benefits especially to our healthy, but in this post we will focus on the benefits of Vitamin C to achieve healthier skin.

Olay Skin Whitening Bar soaps, best whitening soaps, skin whitening bath soaps

Vitamin C is the most familiar of all the nutrients because of its widespread use as a dietary supplement. Vitamin C is needed for the growth and repair of tissues in our body and because the body does not store Vitamin C in its tissues, we need to consume it on a regular basis. Our body needs Vitamin C to make collagen – a protein that helps support tendons, ligaments and blood vessels, and good protein for our skin! So if we lack Vitamin C our skin tend to get dry and flaky and prone to diseases. I guess nobody wants that, right?

And it is good that Olay add Vitamin C to their soaps! It will help us to get smoother and healthier skin. But in order to gain the full effect – we should also take Vitamin C supplements so that our inner body would be benefited too.

Vitamin C also helps our skin to prevent and delays premature signs of aging, like wrinkles and dryness.

Aside from Vitamin C, this soap also contains Morus Alba extract (commonly known as White Mulberry) – a native plant that grows in northern China (but now is cultivated and grown in any parts outside China). It is used traditionally for vitality and immune support. The White Mulberry is incorporated in whitening products. The compound attributed with lightening the skin is arbutin, a form of hydroquinone that inhibits melanin release by suppressing the tyrosinase enzyme.

I use this Olay soap not only to my body, but also to my face – and it feels really good and refreshing after! It also helps to makes my skin tighter and more glowing even without makeup!

Olay Skin Whitening Bar with Rose & Milk

Rose and Milk are been used as whitening agents since the early ages, two perfect combination for achieving healthy glowing skin.

For centuries, roses have been a symbol of LOVE. Who would be so upset with a bouquet of roses along with a heart-shaped box of chocolates during Valentine’s Day, or maybe during a no-occasion day?! The fragrance of roses is hypnotic – making you feel both calm and sensual. Plus a mixture of milk which makes our skin smoother like a baby.

(And honestly, I prefer a numerous boxes of Olay Skin Whitening Bar with Rose & Milk than your heart-shaped box of chocolates and bouquet of roses. I’m a practical girl!)

And I would never apologize for that matter.

All these variants contain Glycerin – a compound that can be made from natural products such as vegetable oil and animal fats. The effects of glycerin on skin are healthier, more natural-looking appearance. If you have psoriasis, glycerin can interrupt the thickening and scaly skin, and allows the cells to reach full maturation before shedding. The compound can also help wounds heal more quickly in some cases. This is why these soaps give us that supple, smoother skin and glowing effect.

Are these soaps “Halal” or “Haram”?

Since these soaps contains glycerin (Olay use glycerin from animal fats) I’m afraid that these soaps are Haram

(“Halal” which means “permissible” – is one of the tenets of morality in Islam, and refers to anything that is lawful in Islamic Law. Islam prohibits the consumption of pork, alcohol, and blood. Products that contain one or more of these ingredients are considered to be “haram” or “forbidden”)

Verdict:

Ohh no doubt that I love these soaps! Although they all failed to make me whiter or even lighten – these gives me other benefits, like a more glowing and healthier skin. I love my tan-complexion – requires low-maintenance and I’m not afraid to go out and enjoy outdoors, not minding I’ll get brown and waste those whitening products I’ve used, lol

Will I buy gain?

Ohh yeah! I will definitely buy again, and currently eyeing for their next promotional discounts. If someone sends me either, then I would never say no, hahaha

  6. I always wonder about whitening soaps. So this lightens your skin, so if I as a black person would use this then my skin would be lighter? I am trying to understand and not make fun, I know many people bleach their skin, but I think this is not as harsh right?

    1. Hello Sheri,

Some of the avid users of these variants attested that it lightens their skin like after several weeks of continuous usage. In my case, the whitening promise FAILED to effect, lol. Yeah I know right! Because my melanin is so strong and stubborn. Yours will be much stronger and that's good because you have stronger shield against the bad effects of sun rays.

Yeah many - even here in my country bleached everything - hair, skin, etc. just to get lighter or even whiter! The dream of having that "white skin" is becoming an obsession actually, and its a big market that many cosmetic and beauty companies exploit it.

  10. I'm sorry Blair but I can't agree with whitening soaps (or any other products) no matter how much they try to make them soft and smooth and "healthy". Most of them use some type of acid which is the main ingredient to whiten skin (not to mention the whole self-love aspect which I won't get into). I, myself, use Oil of Olay soaps but without any whitening agents. These types of skin whitening products are actually illegal in North America and I was mortified at how readily available they were in Asia. I really don't mean to rain on your parade - I'm just giving you my honest opinion. :)

    1. Hello Lydia,

Thank you for your honest opinion, we appreciate it a lot!
However, no matter how many times I used whitening soaps (I even tried taking glutathione pills) but my melanin are so strong I'm still in my awesome tan complexion. And I can't deny the fact that these soaps works on me by giving me soft skin after wash, but NOT its whitening effect as they promised.

I'm so sad to here that whitening agents are illegal in your country. Many Asians will be devastated of course, lol. But these whitening beauty products are everywhere in Asia, and there is no signs of slowing it down. And I am happy for those who used these Olay soaps and they experienced the promise of whitening (good for them!).

    1. Thank you Anosa for your very honest comment. I'm not against with whitening, as I've already accepted that whitening products doesn't work on me, lol.

But most whitening products have other benefits like giving you that smooth skin, then I'm happy for that effect :)
